    Hey Les Paul RI Lovers,

I'm curious to see what kind of amps you all play through. I'm using an old but great Mesa DC-5 Dual Calibre Head with Fender 4 x 12 Cab.

    Pictures welcome!

    Jim

I'm primarily using a Marshall DSL-100. I run it into either a Marshall 1960A Classic 4x12 cabinet, or into a Celestion V-30 mounted inside an isolation box.

In the studio for recording flexibility I also have a Pod XT running straight into the board, and in parallel into a Crate Powerblock amp in stereo feeding into two Avatar 1x12" cabinets fitted with Celestion V-30s.

My main gigging combo is the Music Man 2x10 65 watt combo with a 4x10 sland front marshall bottom also patched in.

I did a small venue last night without micing the amp and used a 15 watt old Univox wiht a 1x12"...it did kick ass...

    Thanks, LPCollector!

What mics are you using on your amp? Looks like an SM-57 on top, what's that on the bottom cabinet?

Okay, thanks. I thought that was a Sennheiser, but I couldn't find it on their website.

I heard very mixed reviews of that mike - from people who love it, to it getting bashed. My guess from what I've read is that you have to be very careful in placement of the mic to get the sound you are looking for. That's the case for all mics, but the proximity effect of this one seems to be significant. I'm buying a Mesa Lonestar Classic amp, and I want to mic it in the studio. The Sennheiser is appealing to me due to the flat design for micing cabs, but I don't want to buy it if I won't get good results.

    How do you like yours?

It's a good mic........for me, I like the combo of this one and the SM 57.
I haven't recorded with just the sennheiser tho....

Again....that's one hell of a man room.
