    Anybody else do this ???????????
    It all started innocently enough.
About 7 years ago. I bought a bird feeder and a few Carolina blue and wren houses. I installed them in my back yard ( about 3/4 acre lot with a creek in the back with many established 60 + year old trees)
Now I have 4 Big feeders and 3 more houses.
I have 12 families of Cardinals. 10 families of Blue Jays. 4 Carolina Blues Families.
FYI........The Term Families means a Male and Female Bird that can biologically produce offspring. I don't think Birds are confused about their Gender Identification as of yet.

Many Wrens, Finches, Doves, Mocking Birds,Wood Peckers and bunches of crazy birds that I don't even know what the Hell they are.
At this point I'm spending about $ 30 a month on them. That's $360 in one year!!!!
That's a lot of Beer or Guitar string money right there !
Where will it get to in another seven years ?

I love birds. I may have created something that I don't want to do anymore.
I cant not fill the bird feeders. They Will Die !
    Its all my fault Man.

Can you ween them off a little at a time? Or wait for the weather to warm again?

They are resilient critters and can find other sources.

We had similar issues with feral cats. It started with 3. Turns out all 3 were female and got knocked up by a bobcat. Then, 13 half-bobcat kittens came out from under our shed. They were very hard to catch and very vicious.

Then, some neighbour's cat had kittens. She didn't want them and let them loose. They turned somewhat feral, but they were friendly enough with humans. Then, they had 9 kittens.

We don't feed feral cats anymore.

What do you mean by "I cant not fill the bird feeders"? Prevented from doing so by the harsh cold weather (no access to the feeders)? Physically unable to get outside (health)? Financially?

Feral cats are an invasive species. I had one that started living in my Jeep and spraying the interior. I put out a live trap with sardines and caught the monster right away. He sleeps with the possums if you know what I mean. My neighbor removed the vast majority of them, so they aren't the issue they once were.

I help the squirrels when it gets really cold like this. I supplement their diet when needed, do not wholly provide it.

There is a nest in a tree I have. Sometime this past fall, they found fiberfill from I'm guessing someone's patio furniture. Should have made for good insulation.

I'd not go quite that far. Irresponsible humans are solely responsible for them. Our fault.

When a cat, any cat, starts to piss in my Jeep and scratch claws on my soft top, the entire species is condemned and death follows. Otherwise, I have no beef with them. I've even adopted a couple in the past. Got two in the house, and they both know to not even look at the Jeep. Word spreads.

They're not invasive here. They're a very important part of the local ecosystem. Without them, there would be a massive amount of water moccasins and field mice moving into town. If you find them when they're young enough, you can train them to interact really well with humans. They make great outdoor pets. You have to be diligent in keeping down the male population though. We don't want the feral cat population to dwindle so the females can't be spayed. Locals trap and adopt the males. If they're too feral though, they sometimes have to be shot.

30 bucks is nothing really against the joy they bring, imo. Watching them really cools you off from the everyday bs. Happy little critters they are

Nice gesture right there and if you really put some effort to it, they'll start recognizing you, your voice, let you pet them etc. Takes some time but worth it

As long as they're free they'll be able to live

Once again, darn welfare birds living off the backs of the middle class.
And don't get me started on those humming birds. Give'em a few bucks for a hot meal and they just spend it on a sugar water fix.:mad2:

Hang anouther bird feeder in an inconspicuous place in the neighbors yard

Next week move it a few more houses down/away.

Before you know it someone down the street has a bird trouble
