Volume Pedals

    Does a volume pedal still work as a master volume even if it's the only pedal your using. I'm just going to use overdrive and other effects from the amp.

    Think of it as another guitar volume knob mounted on your foot. It will act as a master volume at whatever point you put it in your signal chain.

    Using a volume pedal in front of the gain stage will affect both the amount of distortion and the volume.

    Using a volume pedal after the gain stage will just affect the volume.

    Yeah, it only acts as a master volume in a PPI serial effects loop. In front of an amp, it acts as an input volume -- which is also a useful thing.

    Supposedly, the ones like the old Morley's use a photo eye and lower the volume but leave the meat in the tone.
