That headstock is why you NEVER use a power drill for Grovers!! I can see where it twisted when the bit dug in..

    ALWAYS use a proper reamer!!

By the looks, that guy didn't have proper ANYTHING...

Gold would look bitchin on this too!!

I gotta agree with Kris, gold would look awesome, slightly aged gold to reflect the age of the guitar would look even better IMHO. Great to see you bringing this back to life!

Well, I've still got about two or so months until it will,be nice enough weather here to paint it. So I still have some time to decide. Fretboard gets worked on tonight, level crown and polish. Then clean up the binding.

How bad were the frets? Looks like lots of life left from the pics....

They were new frets. I'm not sure they were ever leveled after they were installed. There's also a ton of super glue on the board and on the frets... Super unprofessional job. They were about .060" not leveled out at around .045 plus or minus a few tenths. Much more comfortable.

Well, I'm sure she's happy about getting a new owner who's gonna bring her back to the beast she's meant to be! At least you didn't have to refret her too....

I honestly was thinking about doing a whole refret along with new inlays and new binding. Once I get it all setup if I still don't like the feel I will probably refret it.

Not much done this weekend, took my son to see the guitar expo at the buffalo science museum! Anyway got this old p90 wired up with a new lead. Mailman just arrived with tuners, nut, and pots. Exciting day! Perhaps today I will hear it hear through an amplifier for the first time!

All I know is it's early 60s I got it from a fellow at work. He had it in a 70s les paul custom reissue but it was not the original pickup.

P90 sounds great!!! Sounds huge, really nice and punchy. Roll back the vol pot and it cleans up really nicely. Probably the best sounding pup I have. Though my marshallhead is right up there with it. I should get the permanent harness put together this weekend. Then it's just wait unti it's nice enough to paint it.

Sorry fellas nothing of mention yet, been out of commission the past two weeks, has to have a nasty sinus surgery. I did finally decide on how I'm going to finish it. Back to original. Cherry! Once I can bend and lift again I will be getting it all ready sanded to get dyed and cleared. Then some medium light aging.
