    The plot thickens....

Not to derail, but what year does the knob rule stop applying?

I could be wrong ... Knob placement wasn't exact or maybe it had a Bigby tremolo on it ??? and was updated to a stop tail ??? ... But here's a REAL59 for comparison ... Notice the way the line touches the volume knob !!!

the knob placement changed noticeably in the late 60s. and also vary a little bit in '59 and early 60s. checkout the other late 60s bursts with the reflectors and tomato soup color, same placement as the one posted.

Here's a 60 not too far away in serial number ... The supposed Burst is 0-7452 , The Burst pictured is 0-7172 ... Knob placement same as 59 !!!

Don't contact the guy on my authority !!! It's very possible I could be wrong ... These things varied here and there !!! The 60 I'm holding at the show has the knob just a hair further back than what would be the norm but it is a REAL 60 !!!

Bobbo, I've heard several vintage experts say that the R0s that Gibson is producing today are more vintage correct (versus the R8s and R9s) because the tailpiece orientation on them is similar to many vintage '60s...because in late '60 the orientation of the tailpiece was "corrected" so that it was perpendicular to the body seam...just like today's Historics. So, if that's true, the '60 pictured above my actually be vintage.

Your right about the changes in placement but most every 60 LP I see in that serial number range is like 59 placement ... Only some of the very late ones seem to have the correction as you termed it .......

I looked at the other pictures of the LP on Burstserial.com and although none of the shots shows much detail , From what I could see the color of the nut looked vintage correct as did some of the plastic and the inlays but the tuner tips look like Uncle Lou premium's also they are single ring when most 60's of that era have double ring tips !!! The color doesn't look bad and the Lifton case from what I could see looks legit , Maybe the guy who cuts the knob holes was a bit groggy that day ??? I wish I had better pictures of it ...
