A friend asked me to do some setup work on a SG Standard of his. I'm a little curious what this beastie is that I'm looking at.

He says it's a 1968. From what I've come across on the interwebz I'm thinking that might be accurate.

It's got a very specific shape to the neck join that I read was indicative of 1967/8. The logo is without the dot on the i that I saw indicates 1969...

Serial is in the 565xxx range.

Oh yeah...no original wiring. Date codes from pots not available.

    Thoughts?

(Posting from my iPhone...only allowing 1 pic per post. I took 4 or 5. The rest is forthcoming)

    100% 1969.
    Early '69 to be precise.

Thanks. Truth be known, I was hoping (and thinking) late '68. Because *I'm* a "late '68" model myself... lol

I'd like to get a birth year (1968) Gibby at some point...would prefer a LP or ES-3xx, but this SG is pretty nice. And I've got something that my friend has an interest in...was thinking I might make a trade offer for it.

What points you specifically to '69, if I might ask?

The missing dot over the "i" in Gibson, and the heel shape.:thumb:
Very possible (and most proabable) it started life in late '68.

yes, I didn't want to muddy the already murky waters by adding that to the mix, as the other signs were definite.

    My early '69 SG Junior was a 5XXXXX SN# as well.:D
