Now that they have been in the house a little while, they don't feel so bad and seem a lot closer to the older ones than I had originally thought. I'll try them tomorrow and will have a better idea then.

    Hi forum :).

I've been searching for the vintage Herco's for a long time now, still to find one.

I recently bought the new reissues and they seem pretty good, they give a bit more brighter tone than the Flex 75's I think.

X-Ray, how was the comparison between the reissues and originals? :)

Compared the vintage 66 RI to 73 nylon by Dunlop. The 66 sound rounder, warmer and firmer. They feel stiffer too.
I think I like the 66s but I have to play them for longer...

Sure, but why? Care to share your experience?

BTW I still use the Snarling Dogs 1.00mm.

What about the new holy Grail? They are supposed to be even more faithful to the original than the vintage 66... I have to be totally honest the vintage 66 weren't as good as I thought they would be. Maybe these holy Grail are it? I have read that Planet Waves Nylflex are extremely similar to the holy Grail (and to old Hercos) but at a much lower price.

Bought a bunch of Holy Grails with high hopes

    Cosmetically, pretty accurate replica

However, close but no cigar compared to the real deal

A joke in one of my old bands: "'Almost' doesn't count"

I’ve come around with the the Holy Grails. Hated them at first, but I’ve come to realize I really like what they do to the tone. Having used Tortex .88mm for the last 10 or so years, I got very used to hearing the sharp, punchy attack and note definition and separation.

Been chasing a “woodier” attack and tone for a while and thought it was down to the pickups. Really like what the Grails do, now that I’ve become more accustomed to the light flex and rounder tip. They add a nice compression and warm things up a touch, but still retain a nice chirpy attack. Whether or not they sound like the oldies, I’ve become quite hooked! Crazy how much the choice of pick can affect your tone!

These are really nice as well. Tried the 1mm and the 1.14mm. Amazing how much difference in feel and output that 0.14mm makes! These have a brighter, snappier attack than the Grails. They sound lighter on the lows and mids compared to the Grails. Warmer than Dunlop Standards and Max Grips. The Grails sound chewier if that makes any sense. I was looking for a snappier attack so you’d think I would prefer the Brains, but there’s something about the Grails I really like.

Have some Planet Waves Nyflex on order. Damn! Right down the f’in rabbit hole!!

Sorry, I was referring to the Snarling Dogs. Haven’t tried the Dunlop’s.
