I know I wasn't thrilled with some of the original Historic hardware put on my R8 .. not only was it not historically accurate but it just didn't look or sound " Vintage "
Here are some of the upgrades I've made to my 58 so far ..

    DMC . jackplate , pokerchip w/nut , pointers , M69 rings , ver 2 PAF covers , Kluson repro tuners , Truss cover ..

    Vintage Clone . pickguard , 50's knobs

    Luxe . repro Bumblebee's

CTS . 500k audio taper pots ...with more to come I'm sure .. like a set of DR V's ?
    \

What have you guys done so far ??

My R4 goldtop got Lollars and I had a truss rod cover from a late 50's LP that I've had for many years, so I stuck it on there for the heck of it.

How did the Lollars sound ? I really like my Burstbuckers but I'm thinking about a PAF clone like a Wolfetone ?

A guitar journalist I'm friends with reviewed a set of Lollar Imperials a while back using my Les Paul as the test guitar. We used my Mesa F5o and an old VOX AC10. They sounded really nice through the VOX. Not nice in the Mesa. Conversely my own Shed PAF Daddy PAFs sounded dark in the VOX but sweet in the Mesa.

I emailed Jason Lollar about this and discovered that Jason is a huge VOX fan. His Imperials are around 6.5K which is quite low powered compared to some PAFs.

I really like my Burstbuckers .. The Lollars sound too low output for my style of play ! but I've heard the Dr V's are a bit bright !

R7: Fralin p'ups (the exact model escapes me...some sort of PAF), Upgraded pots & Jensen caps. 50s wiring. Chrome jackplate. Schaller Straplocks.

R8 Junior: Lollar P90, RS pots, an old grey tiger cap. Chrome jackplate. Schaller Straplocks.

R8 LP: RS Kit, WCR Fillmores Chrome jackplate. Schaller Straplocks.

R8 LP#2: RS Psychobilly kit. Burstbuckers. (the only LP I've got that I haven't tinkerfucked to death!) Chrome jackplate. Schaller Straplocks.

I tend to be hell on plastic jackplates.

My R9 hasn't got a DMC cover upgrade.

    Hey bobbovisme,

How'd you get your DMC covers with a nice (and polished) finish?

I ordered a pair back in April and they came with a VERY used/antiqued/aged finish, in fact they look so bad (to me) I haven't even put them on my guitar. Kinda pisses me off as I bought a nice set of Tim's and wanted them to go one those pickups. I don't have any aged stuff on my R9, I like to age things myself through time and playing.

Anyway I emailed them (Dave's) and asked about it but they said they were all like that "haven't seen them any other way".

Hmmm... and this is just another of a few posts showing up here (and on LPF) where people got decent polished finish DMC covers, I'm beginning to think I got ripped.

    Here is the email:

I wanted some DMC's that look like yours, nice and polished:

These are what I received from Dave's:

Obviously I'm disappointed in the parts AND the deal with Dave's

    Hey Brad ...
1st let me say that I have dealt with Dave's Music a couple of times and never had a bad experience ... but I actually got my DMC version 2 covers from crazyparts.com they are based in Germany and will take orders from the USA , Communication is a little slow , but I guess it's a European thing !

I actually got the unaged covers because thats all they had in stock but I'm glad i did because i was able to age them lightly with a bit of pick scuffing myself ..

I got the tuners from Kim at Vintage Checkout, what a cool guy and great vendor to buy from. The Dr.V's sound great and have a real nice tone full of mids that really cut through. They are the best I have heard yet, although I do want to try a set of the WB TL's from Snakebite Music. I like the sound of lower output PAF's through my 1983 JCM800.
