Well it seems I have the wrong cable.....

I always find you need a tube amp driven with a hum-bucker guitar. For clean I normally roll the volume back on the neck pickup and use the toggle like a channel change.

For a slash sound you do not want to be using too much gain. It's an easy mistake to make.

I'd say your best off with an LP into a Marshall Class 5 with any cable you want.

The idea is good that's a great thing. I know you want to help, but so does Stuart :)
    He gave you good advices....

I think he's right when he's talking about rolling back the volume knob.
there's a great article on the net on slash sound, from his tech sound guy. He explains that now Slash use 1 channel and he adjust the clean/dirty sound just with his volume knobs.

He knows by heart the volume level he needs for a given song, and there he goes.

I've already read that you need to have not too much gain for slash Sound, great mids, and low treble/bass. Also you must roll back the tone knob for some songs, but it depends on your pups. Sweet child o mine for example is not player at Tone10.

For the intro of Welcome to the jungle, I guess delay is mandatory no ?

    Yes, Yes that's it.

I'm giving advice that's all. I've been playing for 16 years, I'm not great but I have a lot of live experience. I've played through lots of amps, pedals, guitars just offering help.

I don't you need to set the gain to 10 on anything its too much! You'll never cut through any mix :slash:

I think the intention of this thread is great, but it really does invite a bit of criticism. When did a "rosewood fretboard" and an expensive cable become the most important tone factors? Not bashin' ya. Just pointing out that, although every aspect of the guitar, the equipment and the talent adds up to the final tonal formula, the ones you cited are among the least important variables.

Also, in most cases, pegging the gain on "10" with the guitar's volume maxed isn't really Slash's approach...

I think that's where a lot of people mess up in trying to copy his sound, especially at lower volumes.

Low Gain Marshall. Low output Neck pickup. Tone rolled back. That's pretty much all he does with his lead tones.

I've chased his tone a few times and came very close in the covers I did in previous bands.
You can call me Master Critic. It's what I do.

I understand what people mean about the gain, but for me more gain works better. Sometimes I like to have it around 6 though. Guess it sounds different for everybody, but for me these settings are perfect and it sounds almost identical in my ears to Slash playing live.

Also I was expecting there was going to be a debate, and I know my settings are not similar to Slash's, but to me it certainly sounds the same.

I find it hard to believe that a higher gain amp, with the gain cranked all the way up, sounds just like slash. Play it any way you like, that's what music is all about.

The only way I can get Slash tone is kidnapping Slash ( :

I know the OP will get some criticism on the post, but there are a lot of younger and newer players using an MG series amp that would kill for that info I think.
