To clarify "nibs" a bit more...

To understand nibs you need to know the difference between a bound or unbound neck (a neck with or without binding). Bound necks have a thin strip of material (typically light colored plastic) running the length of the neck on either side of the fingerboards. Binding doesn't affect sound or playability, but is an aesthetic feature of higher-end models.

"nibs" are a feature on a higher-end type of binding called fret-end binding. Guitars without fret-end binding let the frets sit over the binding, necks with fret-end binding have the frets cover only the fingerboard, and the binding has a little 'nib' on both sides of each fret to smooth over their edges.

This is actually the type of wood used for the top of the guitar or the guitar as a whole. As in flame, quilt, or plain top Les Pauls. The finish could be a different color.

At first I thought cork sniffers were those that only play gibson guitars.

Then I learned a cork sniffer is that guy who only buys (and sometimes plays) historic reissues and custom shop stuff.

Then I realized a cork sniffer is that guy who thinks only a real 59 is a good enough guitar, and the only real les paul (regardless of it being an upgraded real les paul). But by that line of thought we could say the only real guitar is an acoustic.

So I just stopped caring about it and focused on the guitars I like.:laugh2::laugh2::laugh2:
