My favorite guitar youtube channel has made in my opinion an incredibly well done test. The exact same guitar just different woods. Take a look

I'm glad I can hear a significant difference, makes me feel better about the time I spent comparing LP's before buying one a month ago that I liked much better than the others.

I can't deal with this, my guitars are pretty. That doesn't help them sound cool. Please don't!

NOTHING! To tone, both look good even to a blind cat.

So you haven't watched your "favorite guitar youtube channel" in almost 2 1/2 years? That was posted in November of 2013? As soon as I saw who did the video I closed the page. Personally I believe the type wood has an effect on tone. Neck and fretboard as well as body wood.

Because home recording compressed and fed through Youtube into computer speakers is such a transparent audio test setup.......

^ Although I'd put Andertons a little above the 'home recording' level.

If you can hear a difference in youtube I'd guess it was pretty big in person.

Questions like "does wood make a difference to tone?" should be considered to be just as stupid as questions like "does color makes a difference to appearance?". Yes, wood makes a significant difference. Especially to those who cared to experimented with it. No stupid video will ever prove otherwise.

On the other hand, as I mentioned previously, the more idiots think that wood doesn't matter the more good wood will be left to those who can appreciate it.

Also, too much sh...t is called mahogany these days. Most cheap guitars are made of Asian mahogany which has as much in common with South American mahogany as mist and mast. Making a cheap guitar from Swietenia Macrophylla is like making Hyundai Accent from carbon fiber and aluminum.

Also, both guitars in the video have necks made of the same wood (maple I guess) and neck makes most of the difference. Solid body guitars vibrate very little and most vibration happens in the neck. Again, check this out: https://acoustics.org/pressroom/httpdocs/137th/fleischer.html . For this reason guitars with necks made of different wood will sound considerably more different than guitars with bodies made of different wood. So, this comparison is far from ultimate.

And I apologize for the strong language. Debates like this are getting slightly annoying.

It doesn't make a different to amplified tone, unless maybe sustain is factored in. What's unclear to me is all things being equal will a denser, heavier wood have more sustain. And if so can that be considered an effect on tone

If you think wood makes a huge difference in amplified tone, try your braz/hond old growth with nylon strings and see what comes out the amp.

guitar pickups are MAGNETIC, not MICROPHONIC.

Did you not even watch/listen to the video? I could clearly hear the difference between the guitars. Amplified. Same guitar design, same pickups adjusted to the same specs.

To be clear, I'm not a cork sniffer per se as the species isn't that important to me as the sound of the instrument. Just say'n. :hmm:

Wow what a terrible test! Not saying there is or isn't a difference with woods but this test is awful!

Two separately built guitars, two different players and the reviewer repeatedly telling you there IS a difference.

    Just awful.

Anyone who thinks wood doesn't make a difference amplified hasn't played enough guitars through an amplifier.
