I love the sound of that SS SansAmp thing?? Serious..!
Some SS sound distinctly different from their tubed brethren.
Some can be made to mimic theirs.
Fender tubes and Fender SS do not sound alike to me ear in the least.
I have a super six reverb, a pro junior and used to have a frontman 25r - I sold the frontman very quickly.
By the same token I can get the same sound from a Marshall no matter what pedigree.
That's my experience too. I have a Frontman that sounds pretty good clean, but for crunch it's awful. My Marshall SS sounds great either way though.
I've learned that tone can be a marriage of different parts, all of which individually might be....meh.
I remember a jam session I went to years ago; didn't need my regular rig,so I grabbed a Peavey Backstage Plus,a Memory Man,and a CE-2 chorus.I was using a Yamaha SA-2000 (335 style),and the tone was incredible.Somehow the level control had gotten bumped up unintentionally on the Memory Man,which would normally be a harsh overdrive---but it hit the front end of the Peavey just right, and it FLOWED.I would like to have that tone in a pedal.
That's why I always try to discipline myself to hook different things up,even if they don't make sense............ya never know!
Oh I know I know ...
Here is my tube mc 275 amplifier for spinning my wax & cds ..
No solid state for this cat ... Other than my pa system ... Did I say that ...
