RIP Tom Petty one of the few who did not sell out his fans, it was always about the music. Only a few such heroes left now Neil Young being another such hero. They stopped making you guys a while back...

I saw TP & The H on their first major concert tour in 1977 and have been a fan ever since.

    Rest In Peace Tom

RIP Tom - love your music. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers are one of the few 'classic rock radio' staple bands that I will never seem to get tired of hearing.

I passed on the opportunity to see Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers this past summer. Justification: I'd seen him twice before, and there were other shows I wanted to check out. My concert budget is only so big. Now I'm kicking myself.

Walter Becker, Tom Petty, Gregg Allman, Prince, Glenn Frey, David Bowie...the list goes on. Factor in all the other crap we are dealing with in the world and the past couple of years has been one kick in the shorts after the other.

Thank you Tom, for your songs. From the very beginning for me.And throughout life,at various stages,an inspiration. Most recently, they helped carry me through a very difficult period in my life. I can't think of higher praise then that.Peace.

I was trying my damnedest to get tix for the latest Toronto show, the computer at work kept acting up just as I was about to purchase. I missed out not ever thinking that would be my last chance to see him live. Thank you for being one of a very short list of musical influences in my life.

This sucks. I was following the story yesterday. Was really hoping that the reports were incorrect and that he had a chance to pull through. I never got around to seeing him, but tried each time he came around. Just didn't line up for us.

    Absolutely shocked - RIP

For all the crap out there the last 30+ years, Tom Petty will simply best remembered as a guy who just "got it" - he cared about the things alot in this industry didnt, little things like artist rights, creating opportunity for new musicians and most importantly making music that was of superior quality and giving the fans what they wanted and not just fodder to appease the labels.

Forever the rebel - I will never forget watching him perform at the 9/11 concert. The industry has lost some great ones this year - but this one will hurt for years to come. Straight forward rocker with none of the BS - we need someone to fill his shoes and I fear they wont come around soon enough. His show on Sirius/XM was great too.

RIP TOM!!!! I know someone posted Last Dance With Mary Jane on here. That song was among one of my favorites. My friends and I liked that one a lot since it was about Indiana. Indy is my hometown.

She grew up in an Indiana town
Had a good lookin' momma who never was around
But she grew up tall and she grew up right
With them Indiana boys on an Indiana night

Well she moved down here at the age of eighteen
She blew the boys away, it was more than they'd seen
I was introduced and we both started groovin'
She said, "I dig you baby but I got to keep movin'...on, keep movin' on"

    Last dance with Mary Jane
One more time to kill the pain
I feel summer creepin' in and I'm
    Tired of this town again

Well I don't know what I've been told
You never slow down, you never grow old
I'm tired of screwing up, I'm tired of goin' down
I'm tired of myself, I'm tired of this town
Oh my my, oh hell yes
Honey put on that party dress
Buy me a drink, sing me a song,
Take me as I come 'cause I can't stay long

    Last dance with Mary Jane
One more time to kill the pain
I feel summer creepin' in and I'm
    Tired of this town again

There's pigeons down in Market Square
    She's standin' in her underwear
Lookin' down from a hotel room
    Nightfall will be comin' soon
Oh my my, oh hell yes
You've got to put on that party dress
It was too cold to cry when I woke up alone
I hit the last number, I walked to the road

    Last dance with Mary Jane
One more time to kill the pain
I feel summer creepin' in and I'm
    Tired of this town again

    Which one would that be?
Both Bob Dylan, & Jeff Lynne, are still alive.

    RIP Tom.

Tom was so laid back and down-to-Earth. He summed up his entire personality when doing a promo for his channel they gave him on SiriusXM. He said something to the effect of "We are just gong to chill out here, and I'm going to put on some of my favorite records, and we'll talk about 'em just like you're sitting here with me at the house."

    R.I.P. Tom

Jim Keltner was "Buster Sidebury", so he was almost an official Wilbury. But Jim played to those songs perfectly, and was very important to the sound of those records. Love the Wilburys!!!!!
