RIP Tom Petty. Thanks for all the great tunes and inspiration. You will be missed.
I know this is a Petty thread but I always get a kick out of my guy Dave Grohl playing drums on SNL with them (He was actually asked to join the band-opted for starting Foo Fighters per Back and Forth Documentary). But this was 6 months after Kurt died and it's funny to watch him go all animal on a song that isn't that heavy. And I love Honey Bee anyway, with or without DG.
I had a chance to see him a Summerfest this past summer here in Milwaukee. He's played a few times. I had so many shows to go to including one the next night I just said "fuck it, I'll see him next time around". My bad.
That was awesome! Dave was just as pumped as any one of us would be, getting to sit in with Tom Petty and the band. I need to go find that whole performance now. I hope it's on Youtube somewhere.
I like the part where Mike Campbell and Tom Petty are starting off cool and collected, and Dave Grohl's already got it cranked to 11 when he starts in with the snare and cymbals. Mike Campbell looks back at him smiling like he wants to ask "Having fun, Dave?!"
here you go. Recording of Honey bee sucks
he just waves at the end of this song
Sweet!!! Thanks Crotch! Saved me some time looking for that (while i'm at work and should be working )
Yes one of the greatest and one of my biggest influences in songwriting
damn......why Tom?...too young.
I'm pretty sure his band was called The Heartbreakers, but that has a nice ring to it.
first song request last night OBVIOUSLY something from TOM PETTY. I did last dance with mary jane.
This was a good read. Petty's last interview.
He was one of my favorite rock n rollers. Rest in Peace, Tom. Seems you were enjoying it until the end:
My router died on Sunday, but I saw the news.
Of all the great losses of the last couple of years, Toms passing has hit me the hardest.
My favorite songwriter of all time, and way to young.
The Runnin' Down A Dream movie is still on Netflix. If you haven't seen it, it's long, but worth every minute. If you have seen it, watch it again!
RIP Tom Petty.
He always cracked me up as Lucky on King of the Hill
Man, that running down a dream do isn't available in the Netherlands, not on iTunes, not on netflix. The only way to get it seems to be is to buy it in the american iTunes store. But you need an american creditcard and apparently it's not even legal to do it that way.
You could just buy the album Full Moon Fever. Not my favourite, but a classic album, nonetheless.
