oh man that 52 is killer! most folks prefer 54-56 p90´s. i had and have many 50´s sets and stocked with a 52 set. i like them better than any other p90 set i had. although the bridge is a bit thin and weak on this one.
i´m also surprised about the 77. sounds really good.
unfortunatelly i dont like the 2000 standard at all. to muddy and dull..

Great video, thanks for posting. That 52 is to die for. :bowdown
My dream guitar has always been a 50's GT with P 90's. Gibson got it right the first time around (just like Leo F. ) I have , and have had vintage PAF's which I love; but I still prefer a good P 90.
I was really surprised at how good the 77 sounded.
I was not surprised at how great the Vibro-Luxe sounded.
    :cheers2:

Love '52 Goldtops. My dream guitar would be a '52 or early '53 model. Too bad his '52 was modified, but I get. The original trapeze bridge setup is not well liked by most musicians. Conversions to tune-o-matic and stop tail, with a neck reset is pretty common.

Wonderful! :applause: I only have a 2011, pretty nice too, but I rather become a better player than a more owner :D

"GoldTop" is the name of the model, it has its own specifications ..
    1952 - Gold Top, 1977 and 2000 - "Standard" just golden color ..
    sorry.. video cool!..)

Thank you for taking the time to post that Tone Lord.

Reactions like yours make the effort worthwhile. Phil's enthusiasm was contagious. One can tell how much those guitars (and music in general) mean to him.

Goldtop is the name of the colour, not the model. Anything that has gold on the top is a goldtop. There are 50's guitars that are gold all over. Despite the identical spec the gold on the back makes them not goldtops.

I'm surprised that the Americans, you do not know the history of their guitars, for example Gibson .. open any book on the vintage guitars, at least Tony Bacon "Gibson Les Paul Book" and you'll see that the "Gold Top" is a model (like Standard, Deluxe, Custom), there were 6 versions of them (1952, 1953, 1955, 1957, 1968 and 1971) and how they differed from each other and from other guitars. The Standard or Deluxe of gold color is not "GoldTop", it's just the Standard of golden color. In the 70s, very rarely were gold LP Custom, this is also not a "Gold Top" model .. sorry for my English ..)) Regards! video - class!..)

"..There are 50's guitars that are gold all over. Despite the identical spec the gold on the back makes them not goldtops..." - This is also Gold Top, who were AlL Gold..

    Do not assume I'm American.

And you're wrong. The model is 'The Les Paul model', as should be obvious to even you. Its written on the headstock after all.
The 52-57's are collectively called goldtops because most of them are......just as a 58-59-60 Les Paul that came after is nicknamed a burst, or the Custom is a Black Beauty.....even though these names are no more official.

"..even though these names are no more official.." -
so that's exactly what I said .. people can come up with and name anything, but there is also the official name of these models ..
