This is seriously extremely fake, right?

Hoping to confirm my fake-spotting ability here. The tailpiece looks too far back behind the bridge. The truss-rod area looks like it used to take three screws, and the opening seems to go right up against the nut - I also don't see the hex-head there, likely an allen type. And I don't even know what's up with the "Les Paul" script, it looks like it said, "Larry" and he tried to scratch it off.

I feel sorry for this guy (jump to 8:17):

he seems pretty attached to it, and has a story behind it, so for him,
    i surely hope it's not a fake.

Yeah, and he didn't pay anything for it, nor is he trying to sell it. Let him enjoy.

Agreed, that's why I didn't leave a comment telling him. Poor guy doesn't know what he's missing.

Good eye but you missed the top of the headstock.

Dunno, I'd have to see other things like the head without a black background, the fret nibs, and serial number impression.

It's not what he purports it to be or what he thinks it is. Fake for sure.

Bridge (Asian, slotted), truss rod opening (obviously not Gibson. Gibson doesn't apply finish inside the truss rod opening), headstock finish (flat finish, should be gloss), "Gibson" (silkscreen/decal on a Standard/Traditional, no way) all wrong. Chinese.

That is NOT an indication that a guitar isn't made by Gibson. :laugh2:

Sooooo...it's his guitar, he seems happy with it, he ain't selling it, so....what?? The guy owns a fake...doesn't affect you in any way, really, other than folks wanting to prove they can spot fakes ...so what?

They'd be perfectly OK with it if someone on here was building a "replica".

The reality is that fakes are wrong. You can say whatever you like, they're wrong. If you don't like the thread, there are more over there --->

I'm sorry but I need to see X rays of the tenon before passing judgment. It may be fake, but a couple of magic mojo PIO caps should turn it into a Holy Grail for sure.

The shape of the truss rod cavity is a dead giveaway.

I agree with your sentiment. The problem is when / if he decides to sell it. If I owned a fake and didn't know it, I would be really appreciative (albeit bummed) of someone telling me the truth.
