My Fullbore Metal. With so much eq control, mid scoop feature, and built-in noise suppressor, it's easy to dial in a thick yet tight and very heavy tone.

Well not a pedal but the Rocktron maxe od rack unit is all the od one can stand.
EQ,AGX distortion low,mid and hi cut boost control plus an exciter control.
If they could put all this in one pedal I would buy one.
May have to try the full bore metal pedal.

Even with the treble and gain (or "Fab") all the way down, this thing is utterly ridiculous sounding.

Yeah DOD's Death Metal pedal gets my vote. I loved the distortion the pedal would put out. But never purchased the pedal. When I would sit down to test it out in the store, something just kept telling me not to get it, don't know what it was just never cared for the tone I got out of the thing. Which is probably why I quit used Distortion pedals years ago and when to Overdrives. I prefer a warmer tone with clarity. Something I could never coax out of a distortion pedal.

I know I didn't list just one and I haven't heard or tried every gain pedal out there only the ones I have/had. Also, I don't know if others would consider them "thick" sounding per say; but from the ones I have/had I'm thinking right away about the:

Tech 21 XXL Original Pedal (not the re-issue original but the true "original" version)
    Tubeworks 910 Tube Driver
    Boss Metal Zone
    Boss Heavy Metal

Yep! This thing is insane and highly unappreciated by the masses which makes them very cheap. They do have a cult following though.

I had an early version Big Muff. Man, that distortion was as thick as mud!

This was around 1977, and the pedal was bought used, so it must have been old.
