Well you guys asked for it so I thought WTF, OK I will do it but you know what?
We could just use this thread for all Pending NGD's I suppose?
Toss em all in here and keep the discussions going? :hmm:
Totally up to you guys but I will toss mine in here...easier to subscribe to one thread vs. 15 for me.

Anyway, here are some newer pics of the mystery guitar and I added a bit of my Photoshopped Renoir touches to the background LOL
    Enjoy

Definitely worth putting aged hardware on, and those pups are a great start.
I don't think I've seen a more authentic looking '59 top grain, very convincing 1958-1960 replica, love the rift cut back too.

    Jesus H Christ...
I'm with Reborn... That's the best '59 copy I've seen.

I'll save my NGD for another thread when it arrives - this ones crowded enough with all that MOJO (although my guitar has an extra 0.9kg of MOJO!) hint hint ;)

Ok, bought this yesterday evening. Curious about what you guys make of this:

00 pot codes = 1980, soldering is untouched but dime shaped caps are used (not the normal Fujicon)
    G81xxxx serial number = july 1981
    Dry Z pickups with 210605 code = june 1981
    Factory installed grover tuners
It has a maple(!) cap in stead of maho for all EGC1000s from that period.
White finish which is not featured in the 1980 & 1981 catalogs.
    Heavy: 10 lbs

I'm thinking shop order RR wannabe.

Nice guitar Jacco, all I think is that you are lucky to get that unique guitar with Dry-Zs for the price you did. By the way, my 82 Super Real/Mint Collection EG58-100 has cheap caps too. I think all the customs do for some reason.

    Can you blame me, Harold?
There have been some phenomenal solid tops posted recently... And I'm only judging them based on looks. I'm sure my views will change in the next few hours as I get to grips with my new guitar (ngd thread imminent!)

Marcus, I actually prefer the annual ring feature in the top that Chris has in this thread.
The billet was flat sawn at the mill & that gives the annual ring feature a lot more character IMO.

The maple top on the Combat is basically quarter sawn, which as far as the annual ring feature goes, is not as interesting looking as a flat sawn example, IMO.
I do like the flame in the Combat tho' ...... it's pretty crazy looking :)

I've looked at the BOTB book many times & it's great to see so many different & amazing maple tops on the Les Paul.

Some billets are flat sawn, some are rift sawn, some are quarter sawn, and many billets will have features of at least two of those.
Every top has its own unique character
It all depends on the individual piece of lumber, and just as much, how the log was sawn at the mill.

From what I have seen of Chris' new axe, it looks like a real winner in my book
