What gauge of strings do you use on your Guitar ???
I tune in E standard with 10s on all my electrics.
I love my 11's!!!
9's for me.
Ernie Ball .011s
At the moment I have Ernie Ball 10's on Sybil .. But last time they did a setup they accidently put 9's on her and it was very comfortable to play ! May go back to them but you do seem to get alot more tone out of bigger strings !!!
Please vote in the Poll !!!
bought two pairs of ernie ball 10s for my guitar when it arrives... Ill try different gauges though.
BTW- if I change from 10s to 11s or 9s, do I have to re-setup my guitar?
If you change string gauges , Yes !!!
Elixir Nano's 010 .013 .017 .032w .042w .052w
I used to use Super, and Hybrid Slinkys, but I was breaking strings all the time. I switched to Regular Slinkys, and I haven't broken a string since!
I've been using Ernie Ball since 1989. I've tried other brands, but I always go back to Ernies.
9's on a Les Paul 10's on everything else. I've always thought that a Les Paul to play smoother and lighter than any other guitar, plus when you go up into the higher register it sounds better than 10's to my ears. As for brands I use Ernie Ball on Humbucking and P90 guitars and Fender Strings on single coils.
but a quick-ass setup or a major setup...just bridge and intonation?
I used to have Gibson .10s then i moved to D'Addario .9s. A bit slinky but Ive used .9s in the past so, nothing alien to me.
Ernie Ball 10's on my Gibbies, 11's on the Strat.
10's--Ernie Ball Regular Slinkys for the past 10 years
I tend to use 10s on everything except my Teles and my Jaguar, which get 9s and 12s respectively.
I used heavier strings on my Teles for a while, but all my favourite Tele players swear by 9s to get that "snap" and to make possible all those cool Tele tricks like pedal-steel licks and behind-the-nut bends, and who am I to argue with the likes of Jerry Donahue, Will Ray or Albert Lee?
Heavier strings seem to be essential on the Jag given its short scale and eccentric bridge. It makes me laugh to think that when I first got my Jag, in the mid-70s, I sometimes used to put 8s on it.
As for LPs, I've never tried 9s because of the shorter scale. I'd be interest to hear more 9 users weigh in on what they like about them.
I would do a full setup when changing between any gauge !!! Everything changes due to the tension changes between thicknesses !!!
Have alot of you guys bounced between string gauges ??? I was using 11's on my Explorer but when my R8 came equipped with the 10's I stayed with it !!! But was considering 9's to make things a bit easier ???
thanks once again Bob, you always help me out
