I watched Peter Frampton Live in Detriot again today. His main guitar was a 'BBQ' topped LP that looked like a LightBurst finish. The binding in the cutaway was the thickest I've ever seen. Had to be 3/4" wide. I have a couple LPs with 'wide binding' in the cutaway, but nothing close to what this guitar had. I was surprised that the nice solo runs he made on Do You Feel Like We Do were replaced with keyboard runs. Still has Bob Mayo in the band, another surprise. He did the regular talk box stuff in the tune, though.
He's coming to town to a small theater in February. I think I might have to go.
Unfortunately, Bob Mayo passed away from a heart attack during the European leg of Frampton's 2004 tour. Dude was a talent and a great foil for Peter's guitar work. I'm glad I got to see them a few times together.
I'm hoping to see the tour in March (fingers crossed).
I could have been at that show, but I wasn't feeling very well. My mom already had the free tickets, and even though it was totally out of my control, I haven't stopped kicking myself in the ass over that one!
But, at least I got to go to the next one. The coolest thing was, he actually used his his Custom for almost the entire show!
Yeah, if I remember right in that show that they made the DVD out of, he only used his Custom once (Lines on My Face). It was a good show. I liked that LP he used in that show too. He recently (relatively) got another bust LP. I either read about it, or saw an interview where he mentions it. I'll have to see if I can find it.
In addition to Bob Mayo (God rest his soul), John Regan played bass (he has been with Peter for around 30 years now, although Stanley Sheldon, the bassist on on FCA is touring with him now) and Chad Cromwell on drums (John Siomos has also passed unfortunately).
I'll be going to see him in February and I can't wait!

Peter is a class act all the way.
I recently read Jerry Shirley's book, "Best Seat in the House".
He mentions that "I walk on Gilded Splinters" was edited down from 30+ minutes to fit on one side of the Humble Pie Rockin' The Fillmore Performance album.
Would love to see the often rumourded "deluxe" version finally released with the song un-editied and alternate versions from different shows.
Thanks for the post Humbuster! I love that song!!!! Really classy playing on that one by Frampton. Can't imagine it being 30 minutes though?

Interesting versions of Gilded Splinters. And Rockin the Filmore, one of my picks for top live albums of all time!
The 2nd video shows the Frampton guitar with black parts. Wonder if it is THE
famed LPC given to him, or if its one of Steve Marriots guitars?
Thanks for the vids.
Thanks for the post Bob!
I agree, RTF is one of the greatest live albums of all time imho as well.
I believe that it is his '54. If you look at the pics on the album, which I believe were taken during that show and subsequent shows as well, you'll see that there isn't a PG and the Pup Rings and Poker Chip are black just the way the '54s were originally made.
