I never play clean, but with tour Vox, sounds like you got it covered.
Here's mine... I really wanted an AD30 but this came along at a very good price so I bought it instead.
I would not use the term love, but I get along very well with my Dark Terrors' cleaner tones.....and there are a few depending on where the amp shape and gain controls are set. They seem highly interactive. I don't miss a traditional bass, mids, and high controls. If I dial the amp just right, I can get some harmonics happening
in the cleans; more complex than a Fender clean and leaning towards Vox, but more girth. There are a few Orange amp demo vids on YT where it can be heard, but no so easy to find because the tendency is for the demos to spend more time on the Orange gain tones.
I’d love to hear what that speaker combo sounds like in a room. Isn’t the gold more efficient than the 35 and therefore more present?
I don't remember getting a great true clean out of it, but I did get a great jangly slightly distorted "clean-ish" tone. I found the amp surprisingly versatile in spite of it's "metal" roots.
I love every time an Orange amp thread starts and I get to talk about how cool this amp is. It's a '75 Orange OR120 that I run as an OR80, paired with one of the limited edition 40th Anniversary 4x12 cabs with G12H30's. I've come to the realization that I prefer my Traynor YBA-1, but this amp is a close second and it isn't going anywhere. I don't "doom" with it as so many like to do. I turn it up to 5 and get a phenomenal 70's rock tone out of it. A really good example of an OR120/OD120 sound is the album High Visibility by one of my favorite bands of all time, the Hellacopters. All vintage Orange, and i recognize the OR tone instantly when listening to that record.
It's not much but I love my Micro Dark Terror!
Now let's have none of that. It has "Terror" in its name for a reason
My introduction to Orange over two years ago was a Micro Dark. I still have it and there's not a bad tone inside. I have the Orange PPC108 and 112 to use it with. Once you get familiar with its tones, you likely will realize what a well designed piece of kit it is.
Oh, I must have a wonderful clean tone. I luvs me FUZZ effect too much. Luvs me other pedals with a clean tone as well. The BuGG Daydream with my clean VOX is......
The TT on the other hand, rejects most pedals. Plays particularly nasty with fuzz pedals. It only likes pedals that enhance it's dominating crunch, like a wah, OD, tremelo. All others, forget it.
But if there were ever an amp that has VOX cleans and Orange grit, I'd be done...if I could afford it.
I’m so jealous of you. That is a badass amp!
I bet the Rockerverb 50 MKiii would nail it. NOT cheap hahaha!
LOVE Orange amps! Such a unique distortion to them. My Micro Terror feeds my Orange appetite, at least until I can eventually get a proper tube Orange. But it's so good on it's own.
They certainly pitch it that way. Revoiced clean channel, more chime. Sounds VOX-like? I'll likely never know. The US price hurts to read; the Canadian price is even worse.
Ey.....I hear ya there! I think you should give it a shot though...if you like it enough it might make you go nuts and fire sale tons off stuff, and things hahaha...then all of a sudden you have it!! I’m joking but honestly I went from 0-100 with my current amp. I was so far away and in literally 3 days it was mine. I willed the stars to align like a madman haha!!
Heck yeah! Orange is the real deal for me. I like a lot of other amps but I LOVE orange amps. Would really like an Ad30tc combo after hearing a band called Them Evils rock the heck out of an AD30R.
You did not mention the "current" amp by name. ORange?
Gosh, man. You look so angry in that picture.
Is everything ok?
You should try a Marshall. You’ll smile more.
