I wasn't sure if I was going to post this recent addition to my already long list of mods, but, why not. If this is genuine, it's an ultimate accessory. I was offered and bought a purported original 1950s crème neck pickup ring. It's not been confirmed(yet) by an authority, but with the timeline of ownership, it pre-dates any of the known repro rings, so if it isn't an original, then I don't know what it'd be. It black-lights correctly, with the areas under the four mounting screws, and two height adjusting screws hardly glow at all. The top-side has yellowed quite a bit, while undernieth is more crème, and doesn't glow the same under black-light. Here it is in between my Bartlett rings, and finally, on my goldtop. I did tint my bridge Bartlett ring to more closely match my old ring.

Ok. So I have taken a lot of info of this forum so now I have finished this project I thought I better share:

    Backplates - Gibson Historic (original)

    Refinished - Historic Makeover RDS

Other Mods - Well all the RDS stuff. Hide glue, 50's style truss rod, top carve, Royalite binding and vintage font serial number.

Future Mods - This baby is done, except I would like a proper Lifton vintage style case. (Come on Gibson, you can do it!)

I Made The Mods To My Guitar Because - The Gibson parts, glue and paintjob weren't vintage correct like it says on the box,
and I couldn't live with it. Just didn't look right and I wanted it to be perfect!!

2006 R8 Plain Top. I changed out a few parts - Tonepros Klusons, Tonepros AVR-II locking bridge, Tonepros locking tail studs, 180pf treble bleed caps. I have TP on all of my LP style guitars, mostly because I want to lock in the setup but they do add some resonance and sustain - not that this guitar needed it. The parts dropped right in without mods to the guitar. Now for some aging...the old fashioned way. :)
