800 for a 1 watt amp?WTF? I thought Fender was bad when they released the 1k Tweed Champ at 5 watts. Maybe record with it or wank away in the bedroom , but for 800 bills I will pass on this one.

I think we should badger Saul into getting them for us. He is still a Marshall dealer and the store is not boarded up-yet.

I can't wait for Gibson to build and sell a "limited run" 2-string Les Paul for $800 to go with these mini Marshalls. The dream of the ultimate, stripped-down tone rig will finally be realized! :laugh2:

    Guitarhack,
Please understand I'm not tilting at you when I say this, but the fact that that 1 watt amp is miked up renders the demonstration somewhat invalid in my eyes. What you're hearing is NOT 1 watt's worth of sound, but an amplified version going through who-knows-what wattage of PA.

I have to say that demo is a con. :hmm:

I have a Gibson GA-5 has a great tone, so that will do for my low watt amp

First of all, it's no surprise that a Les Paul sounds good with a tube Marshall, is it?

Secondly, I think the low-wattage tube amp trend is a great thing to happen to guitar music. I own a 5-watt Peavey Mini Colossal and I couldn't be happier with it. Beautiful tone at lower volumes, and it can get pretty loud as well.

These amps aren't meant to rock an arena. They're meant to commemorate a pioneering amplifier company, and sound great at home/studio volumes. There are few guitarists who would choose to spend their first $800 of amp budget on these things, but if you've got the extra dough, I bet you'd get a lot of aural pleasure out of these amps. (Um, ah, listening pleasure, that is.)

    Peace

    Rex

We can say what we want about them, but in the end, Marshall is going to sell EVERY SINGLE ONE of them, with none left over. They'll ne all over ebay for half-price in 2 yrs.
The people who do exclusively overdriven distorted tones for home recording are a pretty small demographic, though it's big enough for these amps all to leave the stores.
It's a cool (I won't deny that) tinkertoy for folks who can easily afford it, but if you only have 8 bills to drop on one amp, this ain't it.

I just posted this bc I thought some of you would want a real honest review. Its great for guys that play at home and want Marshall vintage stack tone without shaking the windows. This does that. It nails the tone, perfect level for playing along with songs at perfect level. You can gig with it if you mic it up but thats not what it was built for. Its for big stack tone in a non wife complaining level.

Point well taken. I guess it could be true of alot of music reviews. Certainly the sellers could fix up any thing they are selling to make it sound better, bigger, badder than it really is. A video demo of a product always relies heavily on how it is recorded. It just depends on how honest the sellers are and how sonically accurate they want the demo to be (Marshall could've dispelled most misgivings by including exactly how it was being miked and recorded).

By posting Marshall's video demo of its amp I wasn't trying to promote or slam the amp in anyway. I just thought it would be fun for forum members to have a chance to see and hear it. As is true with all musical gear the true test would have to be an in person listen.
