The sound won't be as good period. As some people who have been working on guitars for over years have said, good pickups can not save bad wood. The sustain will be worse, tone will be worse, a lot will be worse. You can replace everything if you want, but you might as well spend a little more to get a legit Epi and then upgrade.

    Hi

You may want to track back a few pages and read my post about buying a fake Epi from eBay UK. I got a refund straight away by using the tough approach.
I had a fake Epi and a genuine (which I bought from PMT) side by side and believe me you can tell the difference then.
A real one feels much more solid and better made when you hold it. It also sounds a lot richer.

Look at the screw holding the scratch plate and then look how close yours is to the edge.
Buy an Epiphone Les Paul Standard from a UK shop. You can get them for abround £300.

Sorry to keep pestering you all, I just don't want to get stung on ebay.

I am steering clear of 'New' Epiphone's, but still would rather be sure before bidding.

    Ebay Advert

Your going to have to forgive my ignorance, i am new to all this. Most of the guitars i have looked at have chrome covers on the pickups, this one does not, should this be a concern?

Hi guys, been out of town in Maryland spying the new job and checking on houses and finally got time to post...

Yes, the guys are right, its fake. But the beauty of it is that if you are U.S., you have a lot of recourse. (I cant speak for the UK, just dont know). Youve got him over a barrel, because the FBI is looking for these people, and you can easily report him if he doesnt give you a refund.

Both are fake. The Slash shows what looks like 2 different guitars, in two pics, the neck volume knob is forward of the tailpiece, the other two, its behind it. Plus all of his others in that listing are fake.

The Zakk Wilde says its shipped direct from the factory- STay away.

To be honest I would rather buy on eBay than any other site, mainly because payal favors buyers. Also there are plenty out there to buy from.
