I like #4 the best since it exhibited the fewest weak (harsh) sounding notes. As you go further down the neck (toward the pickups) the harder it is to get great tone. If it shines down there, it ain't no sheeit.

Nice! I still want to do this with some of mine too since people always ask me to compare tones.I find different PU's really suite different guitars so I usually end up liking most of mine, jus have to shuffle em a bit till they find a home!

I liked 5 the best, also 1 and 7, 8 was good too but I like the clarity or bitey hallow tones of those 3 better, I liked 3+4 too but sounded weaker or muddier, I think #2 was my least favorite and 6 also sounded a little less notable than the ones on either side.... good job, they all sound good really, can't wait to see the results!

…but I'll probably change my mind twice tomorrow. Each pickup has the perfect voice for something a little different.

I'll say it's probably set 1 and set 5 which are the same pickups in two different guitars.

They have a very similar frequency response and overall feel, but the attack sounds slightly different. My guess is that's the acoustic qualities influencing the response of the strings and pickups.

Hah! I know...I'll dig the comping passages for one of them but then find the single note passages lacking or vice versa...what can't there be simple perfection!? Is it so much to ask??? ;)

I'm kind of digging 3, 2, and 6 the most so far...then again, I'm listening through horrible, horrible mac laptop speakers :-/

Is there a way to see the results of the votes or which pickups set is which?

That would be a good idea. Potential orders are waiting on the identification of each voter's #1. Can the winders offer their guess as to which pickup is their own brand? (It might be funny if they picked the wrong pup).

Hey, guys. Terribly sorry for the delay.
I am in the middle of studying and writing my deferred exams.
Will get back as soon as we are able to make the video results.

I can't get to it, it's giving me the following error message:

    "Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /~aoananp/html/paf.html on this server.

Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request."

    What's up?

The OP may have written down the answers on the back of an envelope, and then lost it. A Series of Unfortunate Events, by Lemony Snickett.

Gotta run, folks. Been really busy these days.
The university where I am hosting the website is flushing out its student and faculty
list because of the summer and the new start of the term this September.
I have lost the ability to host the shootout page for now.

Anyway, because of the lack of time to do a results video, here are the results of
    the shoot-out.

The way the rating scale goes is that the set with the lowest rating is
on the top spot and so on. Keep in mind - with the sample size being only 39, it is
    very inconclusive.

    So the results:

    1st place: Set 5 (3.92)
    2nd Place: Set 3 (4.21)
    3rd place: Set 4 (4.28)
    4th place: Set 6 (4.38)
    5th place: Set 7 (4.54)
    6th place: Set 1 (4.56)
    7th place: Set 8 (4.79)
    8th place: Set 2 (5.31)

And the big question: Which set is featured twice keeping ALL the variables constant and only having the difference in wood / guitar?

They are sets 1 and 7.

    Big difference, eh?

Sets will be announced later as I don't have my notes with me.
    :)

5th place (Set 7): Wizz Premium PAF (On a different guitar)
4th place (Set 6): Sheptone Blueskys

    AND

3rd place (Set 4): JS Moore V59 Premium Vintage

...AND THERE YOU HAVE IT, LADIES AND GENTS.

It has been a rough ride for me, but I did my best. Thanks again! :dude::dude::dude:

    :wow:

    I did NOT expect THAT!

    :dude:

Thanks for putting this together. I think, once again, the shootout shows that there are MANY great options out there and showcases the strengths of each pickup set more so than it shows any sort of winner. ALL winners, in my book!

Any chance of fixing the link to the audio files so folks can still listen to clips?

To my ear, sets 4 and 5 were really similar and a toss up in terms of being my favorite.

    Amazing work, Vast! Great contribution.

James, I have lost the ability to host the files on the university's server.
As a workaround, I have the audio folder zipped here:
