It's been down now, for the same length of time it was up.
When we learned about it in grade school in the mid '60s it never made and sense to me. I could never understand why a wall would be used for people.
You have to open on YouTube
I was a kid when it came down. Didn't really understand the importance of it much at the time.
I remember Gorbachev and Ronnie and the whole, "tear down that wall" ...thing, but it was a bit too deep for my kids brain at the time. Guess I'm glad I got to see it happen though.
You don't believe in countries having borders?
How about today?
Not going to get into the nitty-gritty, but desperate times, call for desperate measures. And, these be some desperate times.
It was because East Germany was so awesome, under Soviet control, that they needed a way to keep immigrants out.
This is one of the few locations, I have ever read about that used shrapnel machine guns (i.e. machine guns shooting shrapnel shells), a truly sick anti-personnel munition.
AND 50% of millennials say they’d rather live in a place like east Germany over the US.
Wait, so like, did West Germany kill a dragon and resurrect it to bring down the wall or what happened there?
Actual video of the wall coming down
I was 26 at the time. We thought the bad old days were over and world peace would ensue.
Oh, to be young and naive again.
Several years back, there was a great show on the STASI and the wall. Very detailed, told about the pop-up automated machine guns, the dogs turned loose, the two guards in towers that were constantly suspicious of each other, the works.
It was on the History channel.
I have not seen it since. And I've looked.
They need to bring that one back, and dump the ice-road swamp logging BS.
That's about as likely as HGTV having a show about gardening, or MTV having music.
Once these networks found they can make money with low-budget reality shows.... it was all over.
Thanks for the heads-up.
Is it one of these?
And that friggin "Pickers" show..
Rarely even watch the channel anymore.
I am fascinated by all of that stuff. My mind is constantly pondering and evaluating potential countermeasures, when engaged with that sort of material.
Are they two-hour programs?
The one that I remember was about the STAZI. -Which controlled the wall.
Used to live in the country w no cable etc and we'd go to the beach every summer with my wife's fam. As someone who works outside all year, roasting on a beach is no vacation so as they would do that I'd sit in the apt watching the History Channel or, maybe more accurately, the Hitler Channel. I loved it though. What they show now is just goofy stuff. We really do live in an Idiocracy.
Definitely the WWII/Hitler Channel.
