I already have in mind an idea of the "feel" I'm looking for regarding this new Les Paul. I already have 3 (but not of the same quality for sure). I think I could manage with the factory "setup" (if there is some done ). But I'll let my feelings talk, yes, mostly... I'm not Ice Man, you know :D
If I keep one one of these guitar (I might send them both back, who knows?), in a month or so I'll head to the luthier's and get it setup properly (and maybe pups changed also...)

The laminated board fiasco and hide glue hype probably (to some extend)contributed to the short term ownership phenomenal for post 2012 reissues.

I think anyone who blind buys on either of these guitars is a fool quite honestly, you have to play them and feel them, and make a decision based on which one SPEAKS TO YOU!! imo

Of course! That's why I made sure I can send them back if I'm not happy with them. And for sure, I will if I'm not 100% convinced and wait till I find another one. Well, let's say 99% (1% left for very fine doable tuning).

I voted for TH just for a very personal reason... I have an Iced Tea R8 which is close to the R9 you post.. so I would go for something different which is the TH !

Plain top is a killer too, I must admit when seeing yours... I may consider a 58 if none of the 2 59 suits me. ;)

    Loads of 2013, 2014, 2015 & 2016 going through the Classifieds.

    I think 2012 has come & gone.

Actually they make great low cost HM candidates.

    :cheers2:

My R8 is 2012... I loved it and bought it knowing the laminated board concern... However, I didn't care and still don't care !
    The guitar is beautiful anyways!

I got to vote again, or maybe my first vote didn't register? Anyway, this time I voted for the Standard Ice Tea. Just because I have on one, doesn't mean you can't have one too. If that's the one that speaks to you.

I really like mine and hàve never played a TH, so it will be interesting to see your reviews. When I bought my R9, I played a half dozen R8's and R9's before deciding on mine. Every one was different in tone, looks and feel. I could have played more R's too, the store I bought at (Eddie's) had lots of 2016's. But when I got to mine, I knew immediately, it was the one.

I think you'll know pretty fast if one is a keeper. I'm not sure it will or should be a comparison between the two though. It has to be which one is "It".

I just received the IT Standard: very very sweet, much nicer than on the pictures. The top is well balanced between flames and plain depending on the light. The fretboard color is very light but matches well the top color.
I play her very naturally, like I'm already used to her, crazy...
    So, I'm very positive.
I have a question though (about a detail). I find that the red dye on the back and neck mahogany drools a lot over the binding:

Yes! This guitar is a winner whatever the TH could be! I'm posting a NGD with pictures in a few moments. I'm in love!

Many thanks to all of you. I finally didn't have any choice to do. The Std IT is so much better (to me) that those I tried in the shops around. It was her in the first minutes I played her and the full afternoon playing her confirmed that. I still have 14 days to find any weakness though but I doubt I will. ;)
    Here is the NGD!!!! thread.
