I just procured a 1980 Deluxe tobacco burst. All original. Slight separation in the pieces on the top. I think putting a little fret doctor in there with a syringe and letting it soak should fix it, though I doubt it affects the tone at all.

Finally, my lust for a Deluxe is over. Now I have to chomp at the bit and wait for it to be delivered.

I think I'll name her "Carmella." She'll be the younger sister to my '78 Standard, "Rosetta."

God, I know. I can't believe I got it for $1700. I'm still friggin' dumbfounded.

Now to sell my '79 Rickenbacker 450 / 12 to offset the purchase...

That's a deal..... I have a 1980 Deluxe too. They must have made a lot that year, I see more 80's than any other year.

Too bad most people alter them. My friend has an '80 deluxe that was routed for full humbuckers. Just buy a Standard; leave the poor minis alone!

    Minis MAKE the deluxe!

BTW, nobody cares, but that's one of the few 3 piece tops I've seen ever.

I've seen more than a few. There's slight separation at the neck tone knob, but I'm going to take a syringe filled with Fret Doctor and squeeze a good bit in there and allow the wood to soak it up. Should fix a bit of the shrinkage.

Nah, p90s make a Deluxe. They make minis sound like Yoko Ono.

    Congrats!

P90s make a Pro Deluxe. Yoko Ono sounds like she's infected with small island disease (I know, I have it too). Minis sound like heaven.

I love an LP with P90s, but I'm not going to modify a perfectly fine Deluxe to satisfy an urge for another model. This is why we have so many screwed up instruments. Someone gets the bright idea to change this or change that, next thing you know, you've got a swimming pool route and a $50 chunk of old wood.

What the hell are you talking about?!? You don't route anything to install p90s in a Deluxe. The routes are the same damn size as the minis. :laugh2::laugh2::shock: They fit right in and can be returned to stock lickety split.

Anyway, I was simply making a counterpoint to that other dude's statement. Not telling you what you should do with your guitar. Enjoy your Deluxe. :thumb:
