I know this has probably been discussed somewhere, but I'm thinking of my next purchase. I have played them both, I want them both, but if you could only have one? I know the strat wins over versatility, but man.. Tele's are sooo cool. Just wanted to hear your thoughts if you own these guitars.

Strat. You can never own too many Strats.

Tele. If a person could only own one electric guitar, it would have to be a Tele. They just do it all.

I’ve sold off 3 Teles over the last 20 years, while holding on to my Strat the whole time.

I dig Teles, but since I’m heavily into Jimi, Pink Floyd, and all things surf, I gotta go with.......

    Strat!!!

I gotta say strat too. But I have a weak spot for strats. They’re comfortable, light, and as far as tone goes I just like the sound of strats better than teles. Having said that tho, teles still do have a place in my collection, I just don’t own one any anymore/yet

Hard to sound like yourself on a strat - they always sound like ....a strat.

Tele ..Jimmy Page, Bruce Springsteen, Keith Richards, Keith Urban, Billy Squire, The Edge, Jack White, etc. all sound great yet not at all like each other.

    So ..Tele 100%.

Disagree! The whammy bar is a huge part of my playing...even if it's just for subtle vibrato à la Glimour.

    Gotta go with a strat.

Tele, all the way. It forces you to play at the top of your game, because what you put in is what you get out with a tele, nothing to hide behind, (cough, whammy bar, cough cough.) You can also use it to paddle your canoe to the gig, beat the biker trying to pick up your old lady with it when you get there, play it hard all night and put it away wet. Next time you open the case, your tele is looking at you like, "Bring it, bitch!"

    http://www.mylespaul.com/threads/strat-or-tele.380437/

Well to cut the story short... I ended up deciding to buy a Tele.. but I found a beautiful Strat first so i bought it... then got a Tele :D

    Here are both...

I think the fender stratocaster is the best designed guitar ever. If i had one show/song to play I'd grab the Strat. If i had to practice for long hours, I'd choose the Strat. Weight, sound options, playability, they always all come back to strats. 335 would be my #1 humbucker option.

Strat, no contest. A Strat can do what a Tele does, a Tele can't do what a Strat does.

Tele for me! Have both, for the clean stuff strat wins hands down, tele for the dirty stuff! This is of course after the LP and SG kick the sheeshnik out of them both! Sorry I could not resist! :laugh2:

A Strat is a far more versatile guitar, no arguments there, I just get on so much better with a Tele though.
Strats are almost too well designed, my Tele fights back a little. I like that.

They both sound different, to these ears,so, let your ears decide. Generally speaking a Tele sounds closer to a Les Paul to me . A strat sounds nothing like a Lespaul.

Tele. I am useless with a whammy bar. I have a Strat and a Tele, I love them both. Haven't played either in quite some time.
