I didn't know which forum to post this on, and I'm sorry if it is the wrong one. But here's the story. I recently ordered a padded all leather 3 1/2" wide Perri brand guitar strap from StrapKing.com. Price was only $24.95 with free shipping. I received it today, and it is superior to straps costing over three times as much. Delivery was actually very quick (in light of the fact that this company was hit by hurricane Sandy). It is a very appropriate strap for a LP, in that the padding makes it very comfortable on a heavy guitar. But the ends that attach to the strap buttons are very hard leather that attach firmly to the strap buttons. In fact, I had to use some tools to get them over the strap buttons. So the strap is not likely to drop the guitar (a common problem with LPs) whether a strap lock is used or not.

I post this because I think it is good to tell other players about a source with a good product, price, and service. I can't speak for all products this company sells, but their Perri padded leather straps are winners on al counts.

I bought a DSL 3 1/2 inch padded leather strap and it's great. The padding and the width on it really even out the weight of a Les Paul nicely on my shoulder.

That strap is the twin of mine, except that mine is red on top and black on the bottom.

It looks nice, but I already have my eyes on a strap. But this looks more padded and comfortable.
At a local shop I saw some conch style straps (in black and brown) for $25, I'd like to get a brown one for my goldtop and a black one for my blueburst 135, but I'll probably just get the black one and use the old strap for my goldtop.

Yes, they are soft and nicely padded. The leather isn't as thick as some straps, but remember, these have two layers of leather (top and bottom) with padding in between. But the front strap button portion of this strap is hard, as is the "tail strap" where the rear strap button attaches. As I don't sling my guitar around a lot while playing (too busy trying to figure out how to play it), these straps are secure enough for me without a strap lock. I can't say the same about some of the softer "single ply" leather straps.

Thanks for the heads up! I'm definitely in market for a good strap. Still using the cheap Fender one for both of my Les Pauls and it feels wrong. Thanks!

$25 is too much for me to spend on a strap - I use an old car seatbelt I found on the side of the road 15 years ago... :)

Well, StrapKing has guitar straps like you describe -- made from seat belt material -- for much, much cheaper. Trouble is, they cut right through my collar bone with a heavy LP. But if you can stand the pain, they've got 'em.

and that's exactly why I wrapped a hand towel around my strap with duct tape. :)

A real authentic look. Is your SRV Strat also strung with 11s?

Certainly, a wound G string, then? I was in error when I posted that StrapKing sold those "seatbelt material" straps (which are good only for light weight acoustics, IMO). They don't. But they do have a SRV leather strap for $19.95, and it's leather.

    Dole,

I was only pulling your leg with the seat belt and duct tape strap bit - I'm not that ghetto! :)
I know the value of a good guitar strap. I go for the 3" leather meself.
