Don ( @Soul Tramp ) has been exceptionally kind to me in the past. His amps and reputation are revered here at MLP. With good reason.

In discussions about wanting a real Soul Tramp amp, Don offered to let me try some of his prototypes. I'm not sure what version this is, as @Malikon has made videos of previous version of amps in this line.

Here's excerpts of a description from Don, from e-mail discussions we had about different models. I hope he doesn't mind me posting it.

I redesigned the Tremor by adding an additional gain stage, a more complex/functional tone stack, and additional high-gain control. I still have the prototype.

What’s unique and very cool about this design is that it’s a 20 watt high-gain amp using 6V6 power tubes, not EL84 as in all the other 20 watt amps on the market.

    Specs:

    • 20 Watts
    • 6V6
    • Diode rectified
    • 3-button foot switch

The clean channel is very nice warm smooth blackface Fender. The Soul channel goes from O/D Marshall to high-gain Soldano.

The 6V6 prototype amp will be able to give you a broad spectrum sweep between beautiful cleans and high-gain at a relatively low volume.

I now have about an hour of playing on it. I love it.

It has two footswitchable channels. "Normal" and "Soul". "Soul" is the gain channel (in this channel, the far-left volume knob is unused). The drive and OD are powerful in this. The cleans are beautiful.

Here's something that really surprised me.... the Soul channel has the nicest "clean" I've ever heard. Ever. With the knobs in the position shown, you an have non-ear-splitting glory come washing over you as if angels are being awakened in your cabinet.

I am not good enough for this amp. It's a treasure I wish I had discovered before.

Now, what am I going to do with my other amps? #Craigslist #GatherDustInTheCorner

    OK, back to playing.

I think that if one cant wind up a pair of 34's, 6v6 is the way to go.
Obviously the preamp does most of the tonal heavy lifting, but the output section has a heck of an influence.
Ive played the prototype for the Serenity (I think) and it was stunning.

Yup I really like my Fender and Vox amp. But they're definitely "toys" in comparison to a real amp like the Soul Tramp.

I still want a Marshall CODE though. I like toys. :laugh2:

    I've never liked Vox.
    Never.
The Beatles, Tom Petty, maybe a short handful more.
Otherwise, give me M & F, in their classic versions. (Blackface Deluxe, Princeton, Super, all the tweeds, and early Marshalls, basically any single channel.)

I have a Vox Pathfinder 15watt with reverb (real spring reverb) Solid State that's pretty killer. For AC/DC type grindy rock it's pretty great.

It's the only Vox I've owned so I can't really say anything about them plus or minus, but this particular amp exceeded my expectations as a practice amp. And it's loud enough I've used it to jam with a drummer. :thumb:

It gets a gnarly, ripped speaker kind of overdrive sound I like. It's not smooth and compressed. It's nasty.

Neck pickup on the LP + overdrive on the Vox is a pretty sweet lead sound, too.

I mean, I can't speak for the whole world's opinion of them; they've just never done anything for me. They're too fat sounding, or at least the AC15/30, which is what I mean when I say "Vox". They're not incisive, and they can't punch to the guts like M&F.
    JMO. Nothing H about it.
    :)
I think even Don pulled some low mids/bass out of a Vox circuit he did, if I recall correctly. I could be entirely wrong. But that would likely fix everything I hate about it. I like the tremolos.
They're classic amps, just not for me.

I was just reading the old Tremor thread from 2013. I saw these two quotes...

Hey, I get the same feeling!

Is this where the "Truth in Tone" saying came from?

The truth it's telling me is that I don't know how to mute strings.

At one point, I thought it had picked up a hum of some sort. Intermittent. I realized it was an unplayed string.

I want to plug a sitar into this amp.

I thought making a true high-gain amp with 6V6s would be an interesting mix-up. The clean channel has a very nice BF Fendery thing going on. Lot's of warmth can full bandwidth. The high-gain "Soul" channel is the same I use in the Wraith. Mal, you Wraith is actually relatively tame compared to what this new Soul channel can do. I've added an additional gain stage that really kicks it over the edge. What pleased me the most with this redesigned high-gain Soul channel is how well it holds together and retains articulation. No hissy mess.
