I'm not sure when they banned the cane, but I know it certainly wasn't before I bloody well left school. Shit that hurt!

I watched the entire series earlier this year and in my opinion it is the best one on music theory out there. Very well done and engaging.

    Thanks for re-posting this!

I need to finish watching the series but I wanted to thank you for posting these. I've been attempting to play guitar for years, mainly by ear, and have always found the mechanics of music to be mystery. There's been books I found confusing and bits and pieces on the internet I found even more confusing or just plain boring. After watching the Melody series, something clicked and I think there's light at the end of the tunnel. :laugh2:

Howard is great because he keeps it simple and doesn't get involved in too much heavy theory.

Interesting about the Gregorian Chant. I spent several weeks in a Trappist Monastery and got thrown straight into the fire, the choir. I was astonished at first at how quickly I picked it up. I wished I had been able to take some of that old chant with me when I left. :naughty:

    Yeah that stuff is fascinating.
You know why that modal stuff always sounds dark? The church banned what we now call the major scale.. ( Ionian mode ) as they said it sounded too happy and of course back then it was all about doom and despair and sinners, hence you never hear anything from that period sounding happy.
