which begs the question: if a person were to assembly their own guitar (or swap parts around), which part defines the identity of the guitar? My current Strat was the body from one guitar I owned, and the neck is from another I owned, so is it Guitar A with a new neck, or Guitar B with a new body? I think the pickguard is the only other part that survived from the guitar that the body came from, everything else is from here and there

You ask too many questions and I like that. I go with the body date. The thing with these things I could switch parts between an American Strat and a Mexican Strat all day. We both would not know what was what. They sell loaded pick guards, it is really easy to loose track of what went on what.
A partscaster is born! I try to keep the date with the body, these are great guitars and Leo and the throw away neck started our ability to create our own monster Strat from his own creation. The Les Paul guys won't get this or just not dig it, the birth day of a Strat is gone for ever. What is always left is a kick ass rock and roll machine. They are all at drinking age.

    cheers!

I've been planning to get a new neck for mine, and decided I want a shorter scale too. Not sure if I want 24.75" or 24".

The original neck from this body had a 12" radius, and I didn't really like it (though I like it on other types of guitars), I wonder if the 25.5" scale had anything to do with me not liking the radius

    It's like Grandad's old hammer.

Sure, it's had 2 new heads and 3 new handles..but it's still the same hammer.

cosmic  you're right though, it does seem sometimes like its the same old Strat I had in high schol with my first band (where the neck came from)

Leo Fender really was a genius, no matter what other guitars I'm into, it always comes back to Fender for me. Especially Strats, they're the gold standard I judge other models too. Those damn contours have ruined me :laugh2: Someday I need to build a Tele with contours

Sorry for replying to a couple month old post, but I gotta ask... How are the new Roadhouse's? Looking at picking up an Olympic white one sometime soon. Classic copper is cool too!

Here's My Eric Johnson model parts-caster. Got the rosewood neck and put on C.A.R. body which normally doesn't come together. Duncan surf pickups all CTS pots Luke cap etc
EJ signed pickguard but I have since taken it off and it is hanging in my room

Let's just say, I had the prior one and this. I traded in the older one with the CS Texas Specials and gloss neck on my Music Man. I kept the new one.

THe Vintage Noiseless pickups are not quite as open and complex as the CS Tex Specials were. But, they are very good sounding pickups and dead quiet. Plus, with the 6 preamp voicings, this guitar can go all over tonally. But what really sold me was the satin neck finish. That neck plays like a dream. The ONLY neck I like better is on my Ernie Ball Music Man, and that neck is legendary.
