Slash just posted this on his FB page. It seems that his battered 58 is coming out after all.

I wonder if we have ever heard it on a record. It'll probably be priced very high (and sell very little?).

I can see the appeal for this one though. Maybe I'm in the minority on this one, but I love battered bursts. It will probably be super expensive indeed, as all that fake ageing needs to be paid!

So obviously Henry is not stupid enough to back out of his personal cash cow over the last 20 years. Mr. Slash. No thanks on the STD burst for me.

Awesome! I'm not personally into any CC but I think it's cool they make them. The first burst is cool as hell. :slash:

They didnt even manage to match those knobs...the rest its quite mediocre too. Indeed just a money cow.

Wow! That's quite a lot of hate. I see two very similar guitars. Yes, the knobs are different, as is the pickup cover. But I don't see why this is "just a money cow"... The color is spot on for a reissue, I think. Fingerboard and inlays look great.

fingerboard looks light to me, flame looks lacking, pickup rings aren't aged, knobs are wrong...

i think it's crazy ANYONE would praise this, given what we know it's going to sell for. If it were $2,500? Cool! At likely upwards of $6,000? AWFUL.

Honestly, this is one I'd have Kim, Dave or Florian copy for me. I really dig the real one.

Hate? no at all. I mean, they don't have to be identical of course, but let's try to match key points. :)

It's wrong binding color / unaged
No ding on the neck pup and no poles aging
It's wrong inlays shape and wrong color
Knobs are wrong as well as pointers...
..and I bet they didn't break the tuner peg :D

why should I hate something which is clearly done with no love at all?

Slash fan or not, I think it's difficult for most of us to get nostalgic and pull out our wallets over a burst that he acquired less than a year ago.

I thought he had that one for a while, IIRC it's pictured in BOTB and shown as his unless I"m mistaken.

I'm certainly not going to pay MAP pricing for this, but with no Daves, WW or other 'normal' dealers, I'm not going to be relegated to dealing with GC,MF, SA so this one won't be had I suppose. I flat out refuse to deal with those stores. I agree they could have done a better job replicating the pickup cover and knobs, perhaps since this is the proto they were more concerned with matching color than blemishes.

$6,000 :laugh2:. If it were that cheap it wouldn't be bad considering the prices of some CC's, etc...

This is a "LIMITED", "AGED", Slash model. It will be priced $12K-$15K easy.

Usually the prototypes are the best of the bunch in these runs. Surprised Gibson missed so many small features on the proto. IMO probably not a good sign of the actual run looks.

if they do it as an artist model, and build it in 3 trunches, VOS, Aged, Aged/Signed, then bend over big time considering the normal dealers won't be handling this run (WW, Daves, etc...). I'm a Slash fan and would be interested in this but not if I'm forced by WHO I have to buy it from to pay MAP. No thank you.

And I agree about the statement of if this is the proto and so many things missed, that may not bode well. It's obviousl HJ just doesn't care anymore. I'd be willing to bet that Slash, and the final few CC models raised a stink about them investing time/effort only to have their model shit canned by HJ, so these final CC's and this Slash burst are probably going to get a more sophomoric treatment just to say 'we did your run'. Shame this and Drew's CC could have been a good run if they really put forth the effort.
