    Hey guys,

Can anyone tell me if the neck on this thing is similiar to an LP Traditional (which is close in feel to the AFD LP's neck also). I have read Gibson's explanation of this neck on their site but i just want to clarify.

Im looking at picking up this Slash Custom VOS and i want to find out about the neck profile before driving a long way to have a look. Here is a picture of the guitar.

Just so ya know Im not buying this because of Slash' name, im buying it because i love the look of this thing. And i love the feel of the LP Traditional's neck and the AFD's neck which is kind of a cross between the 50's and 60's necks. So thats what im after. I wont buy it if it has a super slim neck. Thanks in advance !

It's hard to explain the shape, But no it's not as thin as a 60's neck. Hope you get it, they are great guitars!

Definitely in between if not on the closer side to a 60's neck. Some say between 59 and 60. I've played a bunch of 60's slims, never an R9, but I've had a few R8's in my hands and they were like baseball bats compared to the Slash. The neck was the main reason I bought my Slash CS VOS. It's the one with the peizo bridge, but the neck profiles should be the same.

No two necks are the same. Go play it.

Ok thanks for the post man ! Very helpful

I understand that man but this guitar is 9 hours away by car. So I want to 90 percent sure what I'm buying. I may even ship it here if the seller seems reliable enough and I can get more pics.

Ask the seller to describe the neck. Do they play it or are they a collector?

This is really the only answer.

I used to have an SVOS and it was noticeably "thicker" the entire length of the neck than my Custom Shop model with the Piezo. One thing you have to remember is that you are buying the "profile" and not necessarily a "thickness" that you can describe as a 50's or 60's.

For mine the profile is great. I had zero issues going between the two guitars.

    ======================================
"The Slash signature Les Paul's playability, naturally, is flawless, thanks to a solid one-piece Grade A quartersawn mahogany neck with Slash's preferred slim '60s profile, and the 12" fingerboard radius and 22 jumbo frets that have made Les Pauls notorious for big, meaty rock bends for more the past 50 years. All Slash Appetite Les Pauls come with plush-lined hardshell case with silkscreened Slash graphic."

Gibson.com: Gibson Slash Appetite Les Paul

    ""Neck Profile
The neck on the Slash Appetite Les Pauls are carved to Slash's own preferred Slim neck profile, which closely replicates the famously fast-playing Les Paul Standards of the last year of production in 1960.""

Gibson spoke. "Last year of production" LP had the thinner neck, the famous "slim taper".

My 2012 LP '60 Reissue (inspired by page 136 of the BOTB) neck is .831 on 1st fret and .933 on the 12th, which is very very close to a "Slash profile". Maybe mine is slightly thinner on the 1st and slightly ticker on the 12th, but we're talking about one hair.

About the comfort of the neck: I have also a 1994 LP Standard HCS which has the '59 rounded neck and I always played that with (I thought 'till the R0) no problem. When I first tried what would become my new LP (the R0) I just got that ulterior speed and precision I don't even knew I had, and I was one "gimme my '59 neck and get away with that '60" guy. So just try all the three type of neck and your fingers will decide for you.

    Peace,
    Miki

Think of a 59 neck as on most earlier standards, similar to that. It has a slightly different profile. But not 60's thin or 50's thick. Best I can do to describe. They will of course all differ slightly.
