    Hi to all,

I'm considering buying an used AFD VOS and was wondering if this top looks alright to you. I was looking at the pictures from the other posts and the tops there look kind of nicer and perfectly flamed. Thanks!

Don't waste your money in that piece oh shit with a horrible top that it doesn't look like the original .
Buy a 70s custom in DEAD mint condition

I would not judge that top from one picture alone. Most flame tops look very different at different angles. Any chance of getting those pics? Maybe you could check it out in person?

    Hi,
I agree with AxeBuilder. Photos of flame tops don´t do them justice most of the time. It all varies a lot with the angle of the light, contrast etc.
Go see it in person if able.
Also: if you´re a player more than a collector, I would be more concerned with how it felt in the hand. I have the same model and it sounds great and is really a players kind of guitar. The top on mine is not perfect at all, but that´s less of a concern to me.

Thank you for your input. I found this guitar at a price of $4,200 and was wondering if that's a good price for it.

Thats a great price. On ebay most are around $6000. And BTW, I really like that top:thumb:

    This applies to all guitars

If you're buying based on the flame (nothing wrong with that), always wait till you see it in person to part with cash, in case it's a let down.

    OR!

What if it's a god damn rocking geetar and you pass up on it based on a picture?

Yes, you are right. I’ll play it and check if it feels right and sounds good. I was hesitant because I thought that for the AFD VOS production Custom Shop was using only select woods and that the goal was to match all of the tops. This one just kind of looks uneven. Thanks.

What does the flame have to do with it?

Most 70s customs would have their tops covered in black or white finish, maybe a silverburst. The ones that don't have the maple top covered usually don't have amazingly flamed tops.

If you like it when you play it OP, buy it. If you don't pass it up and move on.

I played the guitar yesterday, liked it and bought it. It sounds great and it feels good. The neck is chunky, very close to my 57 Reissue. The guitar is also very light. The pickups are much hotter compared to 2008 Slash's GoldTop. I'll post some pictures tonight. Thanks!

Congrats! I´m sure you´ll love it. The pickups are very warm and open soundig. Really makes that guitar sing. Enjoy:slash:

That looks much nicer in your pictures, but like said, doesn't matter what it looks like if you like how it feels and plays.

    Have fun!
