I love my headstock repaired, beat to hell, refretted, missing parts 56 BlackBeauty.

I've a few vintage P90 guitars and I'm starting to think about buckering this one.

If I go full size, we know what that entails, plus I have all the choices.

If I go P90 sized, I'd probably still have to deepen the bridge rout, and my choices would be much slimmer.

    What say you?

I would be shocked if this poll went any other way than at least 90% "Leave it alone," but you never know. That was my vote, but I get what you're saying. Most of my vintage guitars are P-90s as well. At least the '56 gives you the staple in the neck, so I would think it would be one of the more unique ones. You could always put a P-90-sized humbucker in the bridge and hang onto the original in case you wanted to go back.

A '55-'56 Custom is my next big goal, BTW. Might be a while, but I can always drool over others' until then. :)

I think you should route it (by hand), put in full-size-humbuckers, and rock it.

Ensure to take lots of pics, and start a thread with a title sure to bring out the responses. It is Friday, after all.

EDIT: While you're in there, add a third pickup, if it doesn't already have one.

EDIT2: Wasn't this already sorted out?

if you have a few vintage p90 axes then rout one of those for humbuckers or better buy a new humbucker custom (or sell it to me). i would not touch an alnico/p90 black beauty. they are some of the finest guitars ever made! and very rare! you would destroy it.

    Here we go.

    Definition of destroy
    transitive verb
1 :to ruin the structure, organic existence, or condition of

    • destroyed the files
; also :to ruin as if by tearing to shreds
    • their reputation was destroyed
    • a disease that destroys the body's ability to fight off illness
2 a :to put out of existence :kill
    • destroy an injured horse

Jeggz has a guitar that he can play music with. When finished with any mods, he has a guitar that he can play music with.

d1m1, by your definition, his guitar is "destroyed".

Jeggz, do you realize that if you had Frampton's Black Beauty, and proposed returning it to 1954 specs, you'd be accused of destroying it?

out there are thousands humbucker guitars (and customs) waiting of you. why routing a proud rare 50´s black beauty?
also if you love it why routing it? if you really love something you accept and love it as it is.
so many foks (including me) gig their p90 customs w/o any problem. why shouldnt you? sounds like an excuse ;)

Bucker in the bridge, P90 in the neck :yesway:
Its your guitar, so don't let anyone tell you what to do with it.
Worst thing you can do to it is not play it, so if routing it for buckers make you love it even more, do it ! :yesway:

P90 Sized Humbuckers is how I voted Johnny..............so I suppose Mini's as they are a direct fit.

It is your Guitar & you're one of the few that is out there actually gigging hard so I say go with it, it is your Guitar & the this option allows you to reverse as & when you may want to.

    Good luck. :)

    Cheers, Rudi

You could just swimming pool rout the body & stuff an effects board inside it.
    Don't listen to me !
