  1. Leave it alone, sell it and find a jr

Ok gents after searching for a trade for a few weeks and talking to Jeggz in starting to consider converting my special to a Jr. My playing style doesn't lend itself well to that 59' neck pocket especially since it was already destroyed once. So,I'm putting it up here. I'm thinking of plugging that neck pup route and putting a Jr guard on it and plugging the switch and two of the pot holes. I would leave to control cavity route alone. I've been wanting a tv Jr.

Why not fix it as it is and don't use the neck pup? If it's the sound, try installing a 250K tone pot for the bridge pup. A conversion to TV/JR will require a fret board swap and a lot of body repairs along with the logo being inlay MOP.

I wouldn't touch the inlay, i would leave the binding. I would just fill the route in the neco pup. Throw a Jr guard on.

Plays and sounds fine while seated. When I'm standing up and jumping around its like having a trem bar without having a trem bar.

Is that the pine body in your build? If it is, go ahead ahead and convert it.

Then you need to fix the neck joint. Has it been glued up already? That would be a waste to convert and a waste to be unplayable. I'd love to have one of those. Always out of reach for me. Thats why I built my PGK Junior. Wanted to build a Special but Didn't have the extra $100.

My first 1959 Special was a refin with your the same problem and my luthier reset the neck and I then sold it. These early 1959 Specials were plagued with a misdesigned neck pup route which made the neck joint fail as it was almost cut thru with the depth of the neck pup route. If you fill the route you'll have cured the flex movement if the neck set hasn't started to fail? You may want to steam the neck out to examine the joint for cracks and glue failure then reset and mortise the pup route, but with all I've listed, I'd advice resting/repairing the neck set and selling it to purchase a single cut Special 58 or earlier or a JR in either cut.

In general, I would never f8ck with anj original guitar unless it was a basket case. Get the neck joint repaired properly, and just keep the selector switch on the bridge.
