I typically don't go in on the not-so-rare-anymore Gibby bashing or 'they want how much!!!!' type threads.... but, this?!?!? they want how much for a shit top like this?!?! https://wildwoodguitars.com/product...-figured-tom-murphy-painted-aged-7/?cat_id=32 maybe my tastes are just not as refined as others here and folks actually like tops like this but, for me, no thanks!!
Honest to god,man....if I were able to play it and had that kind of money.yer damn right I would buy it. Damn shame its priced so far out of reach.
really? you dig that on a modern les paul (ie. like an actual vintage one that had a top like that i could kinda see....but a modern one)?? maybe i stand corrected! lol
Ehh,not so much the top that draws me...if I read it correctly, ole 'Murph is choosing the wood, like I said, brother, I would have to play it. But that much money, shewwww, man.
I wouldn't buy it, I don't like bursts on any guitar of any era no matter who painted and then damaged the finish. But then plenty of people don't like the paint job on my guitar so what do I know. I tend to think there is no right and wrong in matters of taste. There's stuff I like and stuff I don't, but I try to live and let live.
I love guitars as much as the next guy.. you could even call it an obsession..but I can pay that for any guitar.....(at this point in my life)...
I don't mind the top that much, BUT, that price is just silly. I could find two vintage 50s Jrs for that amount of money.
TM: "Ooh, here's a nice top. Hey put this one aside for the limited run, will yah?" Henry: "No, no, man. Here, take this one. Otherwise, we'll have to paint it gold." TM: "Ok Henry, you're the boss."
Those Murphs' may just end up being better than most CCs and most Rs at returning that $9400 to your pocket when it comes time to sell. Very limited numbers of these and past performance of Murphy painted Rs says you're likely to lose little or even turn a profit. How much were the original Murphy Rs and what do they sell for now? No guarantees, but I'd place my money on a Murphy long before the Reeder Burst, Chicken Shack, Danger Burst or Bradoka Burst which are all priced the same or higher. I really like 10. It sold within a couple days of listing. Those CCs are just hanging around waiting for big discounts before they sell.
Someone will buy it. I could maybe fool myself into thinking that top was ok from certain angles but sooner than not it would be driving me up the wall. Real nice paint job that run has though.
