I heard tell that some early 1950s goldtop bodies did occasionally use Spanish cedar, as some used African mahogany also.
I have also heard the same exact thing. Again, doesn't seem like theres any concrete info for that, but It made me feel even better for breaking a vintage rule
Maybe Gibson saved the Honduras mahogany for the Custom LP at certain time periods?
It could be a period that they were running short of good wide Honduras mahogany blanks or the stuff they had at that particular moment was too heavy to be combined with a maple cap.
