    Hey guys,

All of you were SO cool with my first build/thread, I decided I wanted to get on here and share #2 with you guys -

A little back story: My luthier who I did my apprenticeship under helped me a TON with my first build. Pretty much having to hold my hand thru ALOT of the processes id never done before. Also a lot of help from our own Tom Bartlett who supplied me my pre-carved top.

Well, this build I am going to try and do ALL on my lonesome. It is going to be as accurate to original Burst as I can/want it to be. Hence the term "Inspired". You guys are more than welcome follow along, comment, and give any tips or respectable criticism you'd like!

    LETS GO!!!

First off, I decided to use a different tone wood for my body wood on back. I decided to go with Spanish Cedar, flat out, because I love it. Being in close relation to Honduras Mahogany (from the research I've done), and because I've used it many time in similar style builds where Honduras is usually used, I know that I love it. TAO my ears has a much boomier, and slightly more resonant feel to it. Seem a little "livelier" to me.

First off tracing my perimeter design onto the SC:

(Forgot to take pic of me rough cutting shape on the bandsaw, but I think you can assume how that looks and happens ;) )

Next to take down to thickness, 1 3/4" for the SC:

I Just recently acquired a new Woodtek 3HP overarm/pin router, and don't know I spent the last years of building WITHOUT IT! So, off to route the perimeter of my body down to shape:

Next was to route my wire channel to 1/2" deep, and my toggle switch route the whole way thru:

Once my maple blanks arrive from CurlyMaple, I will begin using the carve top templates I made from our own Scott Ex-Nihilio's schematic!

Pretty much the WORST thing in the world when you start a build, and don't have much of what you need to keep going :( . Everything is ordered and on the way. Have a nice piece of Old "sinker" Honduran Mahogany on the way, and my maple blanks.

Heres some pics of my maple blanks for the top:

Decided I could radius the back, even though i usually don't do that still just before final sanding, but Im an impatient little man right now.

Proper 3/16" radius bit for the back:

Maple should be here Thursday, so more updates to come then!

Looks interesting. Is spanish cedar lighter in weight than mahogany?

Disgusting, isn't it? Speaking for myself, I would love to be at that level ever, let alone my second build.

I've never tried Spanish cedar before but I hear great things about it. I expect I'll try it soon :)

Nice build so far. Keep em coming :)

Well, I meant my second 59 style build, about my 120th guitar build

I've used Spanish cedar many times in place of Honduras mahogany. First off it's noticeably lighter. And to my ears is usually louder acoustically, and just a hair brighter with more attack, maybe even a little clearer. Nothing wrong with Honduras obviously AT ALL, but I was curious to see how it'd sound in this setup.

Male finally came in, and it some how looks BETTER than the pictures! Spent a lot of time trying to figure out the placement I liked best, and think I found the best spot on it -

Then was off to the bandsaw to rough out the perimeter before joining the two together -

After getting a good joint, the piece started to pop even more!

Im super torn on the FB choice, I have one piece of a stash of Brazilian Rosewood left, but its got a huge natural white-streak in it. Ive used pieces just like this on other style builds and LOVE it, but I feel like it may take away a little from the vintage vibe I am going for with this '59 Inspired Build.

    What do you guys think?
