I suppose that's quite possible, typical for guitar guys even. But the two 2014 guitars I have do sound better. It's the pickups. They changed. The 2013 guitars have them too.

I think that's a big part of that. They really sound good.

Owning several of every year at least once (except 2002, and 2004) they are pretty similar, I prefer the aesthetics of the 13's and 14's but if I had to sell them all but one I would be a serious toss up between the 14 R8 aged and CC#7, the necks are perfect for my hand. If I still had the 2003 I would keep it.

I also prefer the aniline dye as opposed to the other years, they seemed to have struggled with the reds. Whatever they did in 03 was excellent, and 13 and 14 are also excellent.

I just talked to an individual that I regularly deal with. He said he had some quotes on custom orders come in near double!

You have to factor the Canadian dollar into this as well, but still!

:hmm:.....................any new PU is better than a BB1 & BB2, so that is a no brainer for many here, but you don't buy a Historic for the PU's.

But when all is said & done most of us improve the Harness & PU's, even on the more recent models. :)

Custombuckers don't compare to throbaks or ecps. Better than Burstbuckers? Sure. But what isn't? 496/500 ceramics?

I get the vintage accuracy stuff. But in terms of the best sounding and playing Historics evar!....well Im content in my ignorant happiness with my 07 and 08s.

I much prefer the Custombuckers in my R8, etc... over Throbaks I've tried in a few guitars. It's just personal preference of course.

The vintage accuracy stuff to some extent matters for me but I don't see the changes in 2015 being anything that warrants a major price increase. The changes in 2013 and 2014 were great IMO.

I figured out long ago it depends on the individual guitar, not the year or even the specific model.

:hmm:....................I cannot help it if you & most of the others here can't tell the difference between Gibson PU's & those made by the various Winders we know, like & appreciate. :D

The only Gibson PU's worth owning IMHO, assuming you find a good set, are Vintage, albeit stupid money. :naughty:

On a serious note, the major corporations make & buy parts including PU's, to meet price targets, the higher quality aftermarket people do not.

It is the same with the Wood the majors use. :hmm:...................I may as well bang my freaking head against a brick wall. :laugh2:

May I suggest you try some OX4's..................& there are many others as well. But I agree a lot of this is personal preference. What one likes, another may not etc. etc. :)

It is like when you buy a 2nd hand Guitar................."plays like butta", "best I have ever seen or played" etc. etc. Then it arrives & it becomes immediately obvious that the seller is either a) Dishonest, b) Tone deaf or C) An absolute moron. :laugh2:

:hmm:...............damn, Scooter has not posted for ages & I feel like I am morphing in to him. :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2:

First week of March and still nothing on the new TH range or the CS '50s range...what is Gibson waiting for? I know they are supposedly still doing '14 RIs up to this month but no advertising or website update? No pricing?

They're still trying to figure out how to age 55-57 yrs into 1 yr of production on the PUPs. Then we'll hear how they not only look like their vintage counterparts, but sound exactly the same.:laugh2:

Where did you find that info? Is that in U.S. dollars? If so, let's say the out the door price for an R8 will be at least $5k. That's effing insane.

That's IF stores want to make a deal - but why would they with such limited numbers being produced?
