I'm open to that Music Man inspired body style, which morphed into the Wolfgang, though I would prefer the Strat body style.

It has to be a R/W/B.

I'm up in the air on the Frankenstrat, or 5150 paint scheme. Though leaning strongly towards Frankenstrat.

    Go Frankenstrat.

The fun thing about thsoe... you can do a B&W one. Then later, add the red. Just like the original.

This is the one I had:

A real connoisseur will have the blue paint and proper brand truck-stop reflectors. ;)

Let me know if you need a proper quarter. I'm sure I have spares!

Here's me, doing a mock-up on my basement floor. It's still there, under the carpet. Someday someone will find it.

    :dude:

Though if you wanted a Strat type, you could with Charvel, for $4-5K you could get a custom shop build, in whichever color would be best for the base coat, then do the res yourself (though if it was me, I don't know if I'd want to do my own paint job on a high end custom build, but the Pro Mod Charvels aren't much better or worse than the EVH stripes series, from my experience)

Thanks. This was the first one I ever did. a super-cheapo Craigslist Squier, and some dollar-store white spraypaint.I realize the specs are all wrong, I was going for the paintjob.

I even used Clorox bleach on the rosewood neck, to try to lighten it up! :)

I've got 3 Frankys but none of them have the blue paint in them. I was never a big fan of that look. They all do have the correct reflectors on them though.

A few more photos of one that I made. The new owner replaced the neck pickup dummy with a working pickup and a push-pull pot for pickup switching. (earlier photo) This was made, as much has I could, to mimic the look and specs of the original Fender Frank.

I currently own one that I made after this one. It has a lot less cosmetic wear and some features (different neck, pickup, and regular locking strap buttons) that I prefer while keeping the EVH vibe. The newer one is a regular player for me and more or less, has the look that the original Frankenstrat had shortly after he painted it red and installed the dummy switch and neck pickup.

^^^^ That makes me want to build another one.

I've considered doing one as a "tribute" and not "replica".

Just the paint scheme, no "relicing".

It's the relicing that takes loads of time and burns brain cells. Without that, it wouldn't take much time at all.

Ok, last photos. This is the one I currently own with less relicing.

It is inspired by the vintage of the Frankenstrat photo at the bottom with Ed, shortly after he painted it red and filled the cavities with dummy electronics - cleaner and much less wear than the reissue Fender. I also made changes to the original Frank (neck, Floyd, and pickup) that make it feel better for my playing, but don't effect the visuals.

The relic'ing isn't a big deal. It doesn't have to be an exact match. Not even sure about the reflectors.

Though, I wouldn't buy anything with EMGs in it. :iough:

There isn't much that is less "EVH" than EMGs, IMO. ;) Unless they're in a Steinberger, of course.

Reflectors actually make the guitar feel a little less comfortable. Yet authenticity played some part for me...

Any closer to making a decision?

There's also the Kramer 1984 Baretta, though maybe that would be too close to your other Kramer (though in my mind, if you like both, there's plenty of justification for having 2, different pickups, colors, fretboards, etc). I never played one side-by-side with an EVH or Charvel, but for the money they are solid. And the banana headstock has that nice 5150/Hot For Teacher vibe. As cool as the EVH Striped guitars are, none of them are particularly accurate to what Eddie actually played (except maybe the black-yellow, which Eddie barely used in real life)

With 4-5k, the skies the limit I would say, Strat-types aren't all that complicated or expensive. If you sourced all the parts from Warmoths or something, you'd probably end up with a really nice guitar for less than 2k. And arguably, putting one together yourself would more in the spirit of EVH. I wonder if some of you guys who have built your own replicas could give us a ballpark estimate for what a project like that costs in total

    Naw, haven't decided.

I'm anywhere from a couple months, to a year away from buying.

    Or who knows... Maybe tomorrow?
