I'm looking for a low cost way to connect my guitar into Sibelius for note input. I was wondering about using the Rocksmith guitar to USB cable,
but I don't know if it will work.

Does anyone have the answer to that?

What software packages WILL work with this cable, and also, what
other options do I have (keeping the cost down, say a 100 dollar limit) for getting my guitar's sound into any Avid software title?

This guy says it works out of the box on Linux and Mac, so I would be surprised if it didn't work on Windows as well.

Apparently, it shows up as a USB audio interface.

Rocksmith + Cable can be had for as low as $30 if you get it on sale. I believe the cable should work with other applications, but I have only used it with Rocksmith.

It works with Reaper and amp sims such as Amplitube and Guitar Rig. I've verified this myself. There are better options for under $100. A regular USB digital interface would be more flexible. You'd be able to run the guitar directly into the PC or you can mic up your amp and record that way.

I tried it tonight. It works with Audacity & Mixcraft but the lag made it unusable on my laptop. I'm sure it would be fine on a faster system.

If you haven't already, try it with the ASIO4All driver. You can get it here: ASIO4ALL - Universal ASIO Driver

It hasn't been updated in a while but it still works. Even with Windows 8.

Worked great in garageband before I bought an interface!
