Hi everyone...I started a new Les Paul build after finding a box in my garage with all the parts needed for a new build (but the pickups, I've just orderer a pair of Tonerider Alnico IV classics and Gibson historic rings)

Here are some pics from this week...

Is it just me or do those fret slots seem very wide?

    Nope, it's me too:D
They are indeed too wide...I used a regular type saw instead of the japanese one I had and now I think I'll try filling the slots with epoxy and sawdust and resaw them with a proper 0.2 blade...If it doesn't work I'll scrap it and build a new one...

Well skyjerk, that is the eye of a builder right there. I was busy admiring all the nice sawdust and tools and thinking how good it all was! Good attitude OP, I like the way you handle mistakes.

Maybe you can find some fret wire with a wide tang? Be a shame to waste that board. Looks right purdy :)

So how does one happen to find a box in the garage containing everything needed to build a guitar? That never happens to me :D

Tomorrow I'll go to the local store to see if they have wide tang fretwire...fingers crossed, thanks for the suggestion ;)

The last guitar I've built was years ago...i think 2008 or something...at the time I ordered surplus parts and when I found the box I realized all I needed for a new build was pickups (ordered yesterday from amazon) ,capacitors and the little jack plate (I have yet to order them)...hope I don't screw it up badly :fingersx:

I buy on line mostly. There isnt any local store that carries fret wire around here :)

Just take your time, and it'll turn out fine :)

Oh I think I've heard of a tool that put a crimp in the tang and make it a bit wider. I'm not sure what its called or where to get them, but that might also be a good option...

Would love to know where you got the plans to build the Finger Board Radius Jig... Or did you just come up with it on your own... Hmmm... Nice.

You need to leave out some nice mutton stew for the elves. It's AllHallows Eve tonight. Add a small cask of ale and they might even start the work for you...

I saw it on some other build thread... But it's very very simple... I just drew two 12 inches (30.48 cm) arcs and cut them off of mdf and screw them to the mdf router plate...then i built a simple U box and hot glued the fingerboard to the base (with very little glue, just to keep it from moving, you dont want it to rise feom the base) The radius came out perfect, it did match my 12'' sanding block perfectly...

Thanks.... Looks much easier than sanding. Next one I build... I'll give it a try.
