I watched through the Beatles Anthology doc recently, I particularly enjoy when they talk about their early influences and their time in Hamburg. Ever since I've been GASing for a Gretsch and listening to old school rock n roll.

Who are some of your favorites?

Jeff Beck put out an CD called "Jeff Beck and The Big Town Playboys" that was pretty good.

^^^^All of those and Gene Vincent and Cliff Gallup.

Jeff Beck is a big Cliff Gallup/Gene Vincent fan.

All of these were in The Beatles set list at various times in the early years.

I cut my teeth on that stuff. Some of it while it was still new on AM radio.

Lots of great stuff. Later than the Beatles but Robert Gordon with Link Wray is just awesome.

50s monster movies, rockabilly, guitar bombast from Mr. Wray, it's just a good record.

Makes me wanna pull out the Duo Jet and fire up the Silvertone!

My Son is a rocka/psycho-billy freak. He sends me Gretsch stuff like this over all the time.
Horton Heat is one he likes a lot. But, yeah, I hear this stuff all the time. Some of it is pretty cool.

    How about a shout-out to same-period old-old-school R&B . . . Steve Cropper gave a brilliant
one a couple of years ago to his idol Lowman Pauling and the 5 Royales, with a little help
    from his friends . . .

. . . and you're really in for a treat if you land this box set:

    (Yep, that's Lowman Pauling cradling a Les Paul Special . . .)
