I don't expect many folks will have heard of him. Lonnie was a working musician up in Minneapolis who opened for a boat load of musicians over the decades, to include the Yardbirds way back in 1966.

Lonnie died a few hours ago, losing a fight against cancer. He went with grace and strength, and my God, but he went with courage too.

I only knew him through a forum we hung around on together, but it hurts.

This is his thread from late last month:

"This "10 acts you've seen" thing on Facebook has been fun... I noticed several Soundhooligans have gotten involved. So I was reminiscing over my past, my career, such as it is. Here is a list of national acts that I have opened for, including direct opener/headliner and festival dates... more than I thought... I'm a lucky guy:

    Bernard Allison (Minneota Zoo)

Blue Cheer (Joliet, IL... we were on our way to a gig in Chicago. Stopped to see the concert, Cheer was a no-show, our manager was with us, he conned the promoter into letting us take their slot as we were a long-haired power trio... I understand that a good portion of the audience thought that we were them... interesting times)

    Kevin Bowe (various places)
Doyle Bramhall (Bayfront Blues Fest, Duluth)
Ronnie Baker Brooks (Bayfront Blues Fest, Duluth)
