I'm not irritated ....... I'm just saying that the definitions given by Flameburst ARE recognised ..... even if they aren't by all here.

OK I will add but this is a production guitar and when I see replica I think of custom built by order only.
Each Nav is unique as they are all hand made and carved so they 'loosely' fit into the category I suppose but....ah screw it.

I'm with flame burst. When an LP fanatic says replica I think of the most accurate you can get w/o being an original built by someone who has handled the real thing many times over and knows what makes them special.

I would also like to say the dictionary definition of a word makes no difference on a forum like this where some words or terms are widely used to mean other things.

I find this thread quite interesting. Imprecise language, especially if mixed with self-delusion or seller's hype is irritating. So what I ordered is a "Les Paul build".

I don't give a rat's ass about vintage specs, as long as the tone gets me as close as possible. Something that will definitely go is the nibs, for instance, and I'm still to decide whether I'll go with the old-growth Brazilian or Spanish cedar. Damian Probett (who's doing mine) has created 2 "sister" guitars made from the same boards throughout, except one has a Spanish Cedar body, the other old-growth brazilian mahogany. Any day now he and Aynsley Lister are going to do a careful comparison between the two and I'll go with whatever they say sounds closest to a vintage LP. Several respected luthiers like Ruokangas and Terry McInturff say that the closest you can get today to the honduran Gibson used in the 1950s is Spanish Cedar. But if you want a replica that's probably off limits already. That's why I prefer a LP build. YMMV of course.

This is my 1981 Gibson Les Paul "59 Replica" as produced by Tim Shaw and his team at Gibson. Whilst a great playing and sounding guitar you don't need to be a genius to understand why certain guys took it upon themselves to build the real thing!:thumb::laugh2:

If I were to only own one Les Paul for the rest of my life, it would look like this.

    Spectacular guitar :applause:

I just picked up this Tom Paul - old growth Honduran back/neck, great flame maple top, braz board...I think it qualifies as a nice replica.

I think people know who made this. It was from a first run using Old Growth wood from Dave Johnson's stash. Original 50's binding, brazzy, LOTB pups, 50's bees, accurate 59' in wood, glue, measurements etc... My favourite guitar.

Should take better pictures. I've yet to see better woodworking skills on any guitar..
