Rainer escaped East Germany with his family at the tender age of 5 to arrive in the US. He belongs to the rare breed of a guitar geek, guitar tech, accomplished musician and visionary artist. I first listened to him when I bought a second-hand CD from my local library. I only bought it because it was cheap and the guy seemed to be playing slide guitar. What a discovery! The album was called Alpaca Lips. The songs sounded old but certainly not jaded. There was a lot of intricate slide playing and the music was evocative, haunting and plain beautiful. I still listen to that album and I must admit that Rainer left us far too soon. Miss it at your peril. Some examples of this music: The guy knew guitars too: Are there any other fans?
