A MLP member sent me his R8 Sunburst and requested that it be refinished to a Gold Top and HEAVILY reliced. He also requested that the fretbord be replaced with a beautiful piece of Brazilian rosewood. I'll also be restamping the serial number.

This is what the guitar looked like when I received it.

Here it is after removing the nitro with acetone. I was a little surprised to see that the amber was stain, rather than tinted lacquer.

Removed the fretboard, sanded the body and hit it with a little primer so the gold covers evenly.

Also hit it with the first round of gold. Good pic next to another refinish I'm working on.

Here's a look at the color on the back and neck. I'm going to do a couple clear coats before I install the new fretboard.

I had a chance to tour the Gibson factory in Memphis this past weekend and I sneaked a few pictures. Thought I'd share them. Sorry they're sideways.

This guy has sprayed every burst to come out of this factory since 2000.

The only thing I didn't see was the guy responsible for putting the binding on cursing his brains out in the corner:rofl:

I've had success with two different ones. Crest Bronze extra brilliant greengold poweder #256 and also the goldtop gold from Reranch. I can't tell the difference between the two and they both tarnish the same to get that greenish wear in spots.

Is there some kind of issue with jumbo frets on a Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard? Because every single Gibson I own ends up with Dunlop 6100 wire and most of them have Brazilian fingerboards.

Like the owner of this one, they are my guitars, and I'd rather they played the way I want them to play than the way someone else perceives is "period correct" or whatever other nonsense.

All Brazilian Rosewood 'boards, all jumbo wire - they all play exactly the way I want them to play - I am a crap enough guitarist as it is, I don't need any extra obstacles at gigs.

Great work on the Lester Mr Beef! Keep it up!
